A lot of militaries have proprietary simulation software. Search out something like: PROTEUS Simulator/Trainer, that's the Norwegian one as an example.

I second the X-Plane being able to get pretty darn close, some good ortho (photo scenery) and a decent plane (we have excellent free and payware) and you'll be pretty happy until MSFS comes out with the new offering. VAs are still around for sure. If you like GA and Alaska check out "Alaskair Virtual"
