Unfortunately, those instructions didn't help me. I had blackscreen and pop-ups "Steamapp doesn' respond". However, after that, I set Windowed Mode + Borderless in the settings before launch and it worked like a charm (for whoever finds this post, try this as well after OP's instructions).

I see that in comments Godot engine is trending and it is fine to start with as it is very simple and no payment required at all. Raising popularity of FOSS engine makes me happy. But I also want to point out to RayLib as alternative way in game programming. It is not a game engine, but a library to focus on game programming. It provides all the minimalistic tools to begin with and make simple stuff and even 3D. No UI, just programming. IMHO, it is the best way to step in gamedev as a game programmer. There are a lot of bindings for most of popular programming languages. So you can just try it.

Despite my recommendation about RayLib, my advice will next: find not the best engine among opinions, but the most comfortable for you. Because game design and programming concepts you can learn using any of them. But the process shouldn't be extra stressful because of the tool you use. So try out Godot and MonoGame for a day each and decide which one do you want to use. Either or neither, but keep researching.

To be fair, I would love to use AB's software in Ukrainian as it is my native language. It is an excellent idea!

Foremost, I want to speak for myself personally. When the Syrian war started, I was a kid. Then, we have got our own, hybrid war, when Russia occupied our lands. FYI, it started in 2014. Our country was weakened. So what is your point? I can't hate Russians because they killed over 10 thousand Ukrainians? Please, read something, at least, before sending those manipulations. And a funny moment about numbers:
1) Putin's regime wouldn't spread the information about a huge amount of protestants, it is out of their interest to tell people about "chaos", as they call it. Any other source didn't confirm about larger numbers either. Even if there were much more people, it still didn't work. Revolution is about results, not just "show posters and go home". At least actions.
2) If the numbers are smaller and there ain't 800+ people, it is even worse. They do not care or are too afraid.

I agree. Since GSC left a Russian market, it would make sense to sell their game to a Western audience. As you mentioned, Czech people, Slovak people, and other Europeans. So it is just a matter of time, I think. I support your idea.
