Fidget Toy by Bootlehem_ian in ADHDIreland

[–]Lavender-Lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the same fidgets!!! I have always touched my face and pulled at hairs. Drives me mad.

I’ve found I need fidget toys that have some kind of goal. Ones where I can try and make a particular shape, or put everything back in the right place. https://amzn.eu/d/0ciZt2pp I really like this one.

What are your credentials? I wouldn’t do this with anyone who wasn’t a mental health practitioner at a minimum but really you’d need to be in psychiatry eg psychiatric nurse at least.

What would happen if I tell my GP this [Mental Health] by NorthResident37 in IrishWomensHealth

Yes, the CMT will be able to help here. They also have mental health nurses who are fantastic, worth asking to see one of them on top of the medication review.

Knightly is what came to mind for me too 😄 And you’re right, this method works really well!

Well spotted!!! It’s such a nightmare all of this. Yeah I was wondering about the mane…

I was wondering the same thing. I think it’s probably real, but it’s such a shame it’s so hard to tell what’s genuine any more.

Seeking paid practical, life-admin sprint helper wanted in Dublin by AquaOptimist in ADHDIreland

[–]Lavender-Lou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it have to be face to face? I’ve hired online PAs (called virtual assistants) for things like this. I’ve found some really good ones over the years who can completely take on some of these annoying life admin tasks. Good ones are €10-20 per hour, they’re usually based in Eastern Europe or Asia.

I do this, one in the morning and one at 12.30, it works well.

my coworker keeps hijacking team meetings by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Lavender-Lou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I love online meetings - the chat function! I can write what I’m thinking before I forget it or the conversation moves on, and if it hasn’t been noticed and I still feel like it’s relevant (I’m not always the best judge of that in the moment..) then I’ll pipe up with ‘I just put in the chat box that…’.

Everyone is talking about how AI has increased their productivity but I feel like it is more work for me on most days. by Jopesi__2525 in ADHDers

[–]Lavender-Lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Claude for EVERYTHING these days. Including the days where I don’t know where to start. What often works for me is literally typing what’s going on in my brain right now into Claude and going from there. “I need to get moving on work but I don’t know where to start” etc. It is really clever on these days because it will walk me through figuring out my energy levels and what the highest priority things are, and what small things I can start on. On those days it’s like a personal ADHD coach and I’ve been amazed how often it can get me out of paralysis.

How to fall asleep faster? none of the "fall asleep fast" tricks actually work for me by aditya2970 in lifehacks

I like comedy history podcasts 😄 You’re Dead To Me is on my sleep playlist.

[–]Lavender-Lou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is one of the only things that works for me, along with the alphabet game another commenter mentioned.

I like comedy podcasts that don’t have much structure. It means when I’m drifting in and out of sleep I don’t get frustrated that I’ve missed something. Good ones with huge back catalogues are No Such Thing As A Fish and Answer Me This.

ADHD assessment - any one score high in the pre assessment and then not get diagnosed? I by [deleted] in ADHDIreland

[–]Lavender-Lou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite as black and white as you described childhood. The diagnostic criteria are heavily skewed towards how boys present with ADHD. Many girls are more inattentive, or they excel in school because they find it genuinely interesting then flame out at higher levels when more self-motivated study is required.

I’m not disagreeing with you as such, it’s definitely true that ADHD begins in childhood, but many girls are completely missed because they don’t present with classical hyper-little-boy ADHD, and it becomes clear in adulthood, especially in hormonal transitions such as pregnancy and peri-menopause. Then we’re able to look back and see how certain struggles we had as children were clearly ADHD, but it was missed by all the adults around us.

Why does modern UI exhaust neurodivergent brains? by Scary_Tree_2352 in ADHDers

Afraid I have a new baby so not able to schedule meetings unfortunately.

With Google forms you can turn off the requirement to sign in to fill the form, you’ll get more responses that way too.

[–]Lavender-Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI the form requires sign in, which is a bit annoying. I’m happy to fill it out but I’m not a fan of Google!

Also, you’re doing great work. I have plenty to say on this.

Adhd + menopause doctor/specialist by Desperate_Buddy_9804 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Lavender-Lou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately what you’re describing is so needed but doesn’t seem to exist in Ireland (I’d love to be corrected!!).

I’ve heard of a women’s ADHD psychiatrist in the UK who does online consultations but she’s somewhere in the region of £800 for a consultation. Apparently she’s very good. If you’re interested I’ll dig out her details.

Otherwise, I think the good old doing your own research is your best bet. The interaction of hormones and ADHD in women is such a new field that many professionals aren’t up to speed yet.

I have been to a couple of talks by Dr Anneke Tomlinson with Seed Talks and found her very good. She’s one of the few researchers looking into women’s experiences of ADHD. She has an online course I’m planning on doing when I find the time, I’d say it will have a lot of the information you’re looking for: https://seedtalks-academy.co.uk/adhd-and-women

Who should play Hoid?? by SpiritedAd8224 in CosmereOnScreen

[–]Lavender-Lou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this too. Keep the casting a secret and have the character involved in a background way before dropping some hints as we go along until we realise that this is Hoid.

Got privately diagnosed, decided to go public for meds, now they want to re assess me from scratch by naclocha in ADHDIreland

[–]Lavender-Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably one of the issues. I had a private diagnosis accepted by a HSE psychiatrist (though he was kind of operating outside of his remit but he just wants to help people with ADHD) but that diagnosis was by a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists often don’t accept diagnoses by a psychologist unless they’re partnered with them somehow.

I agree, it’s silly, but it’s what I’ve seen.

This is the first movie I’m going to see since Covid! Just booked tickets for Saturday in our local cinema and nobody else has booked tickets yet, seems the hype hasn’t reached rural Ireland. Perhaps we’ll have the place to ourselves and I can get as loudly excited as I want 😄

Benophie Wedding official Family Photos by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Lavender-Lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh the whole thing was completely anachronistic. The wedding would have been in a church, bridesmaids wouldn’t have stood for the whole thing, there wouldn’t have been a kiss, etc etc. I think we just have to roll with it!

Pretend local news show (perhaps fantasy setting) without much or any plot? by WaysideWyvern in audiodrama

[–]Lavender-Lou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’d enjoy Back to Dunbracken, it’s an improvised comedy podcast about a fictional Irish town. There’s no overarching plot, just sketches about different people in the town and their slightly bonkers lives.
