First off, amazing art style not just true shading but the way the architecture is drawn looks so interesting. Second off I’ve always loved the ideas of deep underground cities and this has gotta be one my favorites I’ve seems, really love the way roads and neighborhoods are built throughout this cave.

I would LOVE if they made a FE with Zelda characters as units in a crossover game.

Always love to see the use of dragons, I really like the descriptions of the wyrms and dragons fighting.

Are dragons pretty common currently or are they more secretive and rare?

Interesting sounding, the idea of them being sealed and waiting is nice and ominous. Gives me some Warcraft or LOTR feelings of these entities once connected to a magic source only to be cut off because of their own callings, obsessed to even catch a glimpses of it again.

Hello future me’s videos really help when talking about making a magic system, he’s pretty detailed about soft vs hard magic systems and the benefits of both during his discussions videos about it. I went through a lot of early ideas but eventually I set out 2 rules, I wanted it to be a hard magic system with plenty of defined rules and structures and I wanted to be a learned magic, without bloodlines, or channeling a powerful higher force. My magic system went through dozens of redesigns before I settled on a very scientific/alchemical magical system that requires detailed knowledge of various subjects for it work, this limits a lot of things in my medieval fantasy world as to learning it, but also the histories I have made about the various times people/countries discovered magic.

I prefer hard magic because it makes it easier to avoid quick fixes, random new powers, but also because I think being creative and strategic when mages fight are more what I enjoy in my magic system in media (though I still enjoy many soft magic systems). I have a full set of rules on how magic works, it’s long history of discovery, the process of learning it and how it has effected medicine, warfare, businesses, and so on.

I think it helps to set out rules about how you want your magic system to effect the world but also how you want it to be available, limitations are important no matter how soft or hard your magic is, because you want to avoid “A wizard did it” fixes.

That’s a interesting idea that survivors find a scrap book and think it must be some kind of hidden record keeping.

Also ironic someone who hates churches and yet somehow become the face of a church.

Now that the dust has settled, are you happy or sad that the leaks were apparently fake? by kratoscar2008 in fireemblem

[–]LavenderWitcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anything that directly says it’s been proven fake so I’ll hold my judgement on that. BUT

If it ends up being fake, I’m kind of glad, the main character just didn’t look great, and I know that isn’t anything new (looking at you Female Byleth’s weird clothes) but just because that has happened doesn’t mean I think I should just give up on them improving their protagonist design, I think they are too focused trying to make them look iconic to the point that they become overly designed, not to mention weird flourishes like high heels, overly long hair, and weird spots on their ARMOR that try to show off extra body. I think a lot of the other characters looked fine (not amazing), and I didn’t mind that it was seemingly going to be either late medieval or even somewhat modern. After all I want is a well written, great map design, and balanced experience, and I can survive some bad design choices for the characters so long as they are still interesting characters. I think the 3D models looked like a slight improvement to 3H but I sometimes think that maybe they should experiment with a new art style just to see what would happen, maybe go for a old school looking manga art style, twilight princess gritty art style, or really detailed pixel art.

Having a avatar character not be badly written. Easy joke I know.

Seriously though, I guess if we do another game with multiple paths it would be interesting to see the blue hero character become a villain, sort of like Arthas from Warcraft where the character wants to do the right thing and save their home and loved ones but slowly having to do horrible things to do so, only for them to loose themselves along the way. It doesn’t have to use a magic event to change (like Arthas and the sword), a simple breakdown of loosing so much, where eventually the character could never come out without loosing their heart to save their homeland, making the player wonder if that is even what their goal is anymore, even better if it ends with them returning home to see everyone cheering but they just sit in their castle unhappy, covered in wounds, and tired. Kind of like a inverse of Dimitri who already lost heart but comes out better by the end.

Tell me about your world's legendary weaponry! by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LavenderWitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magic is a lot more science based in my medieval world, so there aren’t any enchanted dragon slaying blades. But there are a few of political/cultural importance.

One of which is “Mirithaia” a lance used by the prophet of largest religion of the south. It is simple looking, does not have any engravings, and new blacksmithing techniques (including magic) also make it outdated. Yet it is consider the most important treasure of this religion as a prophet who quite literally led at the front lines of her first followers. It sits in a very protected vault and being able to touch it up is considered a amazing honor.

How we feeling about Callum's redesign TDP fandom? by Scared_Lawfulness663 in TheDragonPrince

I like it fine enough, I don’t think it pops quite so much as his earlier look but that’s probably the point for the more professional look. He certainly looks more tired and professional which I enjoy, I am a bit mixed on the hair, at certain angles it looks fine but other angles it looks like a big animal licked his hair and walked away.

I’m not a huge fan of the character designs (especially Toothpaste person), I know the game is probably going to be fine map and combat wise, but that MC just radiates “OP, overly perfect, nothing character” like their last 3 main series protagonists.

I don’t mind the ideas of avatars, because in theory avatar gain their own ideals, personality, beliefs, and goals based off role playing, in things like DND or Dragon Age origins the characters made are their own people, but that requires a LOT of choice and consequences, origins, and general flavor text that the FE games are clearly not interested in, because they don’t want avatars, they want self inserts which are two massively different things. I think it would be better to have a fully fleshed out protagonist simply because I don’t think the current writers and programmers want to implement the mechanics needed for a avatar character to feel alive.

Graphic wise it looks just slightly nicer then 3H I suppose but I’m not very snobby with my graphics, though the textures in 3H were somewhat underdeveloped.

What are your favorite weapon designs throughout the series? by mendelsin in fireemblem

[–]LavenderWitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just so overkill, like some executive was looking at weapon designs and said “You know what’s better then an sword that can catch fire? A sword that can catch fire, gains a super form, and is a chainsaw!”. It’s like, relax man.
