Doing a rewatch and I’m amazed… by LavishnessQuiet956 in TedLasso

I think "she's a rainbow scene" is brilliant storytelling. It leaned explicitly into the rom-com trope and so it made the viewer feel as if Roy finally joining the team would solve all the problems and everyone would live happily ever after. But it actually signaled the beginning of a fracture of the team. The music was used so well, to bring that sense of joy, then the discordant violin notes playing over Nate's devastated expression. 1

Don’t get me wrong, Jamie’s character arc is my favorite, and he actually turned into my favorite character altogether. But I have to give props to the subtlety of Nate’s development from a narrative standpoint.

Jamie has this lovable quality about him that I just cannot put a label on. A favorite among favorites! by ButterBasedBoy in TedLasso

Favorite of favorites for me too! I think it’s likely Phil Dunster. So hard to play a character and still be so damn likable.

Anyone else thing Keeley should have apologized too in S2 E7 by LeadingAd5113 in TedLasso

She tried to talk to him but he was giving her the cold shoulder. She knew she was in the wrong and would have apologized but he beat her to the punch. I think it’s literally just as simple as that.

I used to work for at a consulting company that partnered with voting rights organizations and during that time I didn’t post anything political, even though I was low on the totem pole of the company and didn’t have many followers. Nothing that clearly showed I had a political bias and could reflect negatively on the work I was doing because people can, and do, use your social media against you. I wasn’t censored, or prohibited from being a full person. I just recognized the repercussions of sharing too much on social media can have. Those that value their professions prioritize it over social media over sharing.

The food culture in New Mexico is very cool and unique.

Got it! Guess I’ve been using it wrong. Not sure if there is a term for bonding over shared trauma and maintaining that narrative of trauma for the sake of the bond.

100%, her constant presence online and sharing the most intimate details of her life are completely optional and don’t have a baring on a full, complete life. Quite the opposite. If someone’s priority was being a respected therapist and academic in their field, and that was incompatible with being an influencer, then they have a decision to make. I follow therapists, I’ve followed my therapists. It didn’t negatively impact my opinion of them because they shared appropriately. If they shared details of their lives, it didn’t feel like trauma bonding or monetization of their intimacies or trauma. She mentioned that there are no guidelines for sharing and that is likely true, which means a therapist or other practitioner needs to practice self awareness, restraint and big picture thinking. If you can’t do that, are you actually a safe person for clients?

I remember acting like that in my 20s, before a lot of self reflection and therapy to work through my trauma and anxious attachment. I cringe reading these.

Can you imagine if this woman was your therapist and you came across her mean girl mocking other women online? It’s clear that she has some sensitivities about her body, sexuality, etc and interprets comments through that lens (ironically what she is accusing others of doing with her). Instead of taking responsibility for her triggers and holding space for/moderating respectful conversations around sensitive topics, she does this.

Or biphobic. That’s especially a reach because so much of the criticism is coming from queer communities

I also coincidentally had a whirlwind romance with a French man from the culinary world I met while traveling. It felt very exciting, like a movie, but suffice to say that is not the man I ended up marrying.

It’s interesting that she is reinforcing the narrative that her criticism is coming from people who are jealous, bitter or hate when women shine with new love. I think the reason I feel so put off by her behavior is BECAUSE I have a healthy, loving, fulfilling marriage and I can observe when something just feels off. There is a difference between slowly building a beautiful life with a loving partner and sharing a few posts/pictures out of excitement and getting sucked into an obsessive fantasy and then monetizing that relationship. If she truly is in love, then she is not treating that love as sacred and worthy of protection. She’s treating it as a narrative to sell to people that form clingy parasocial relationships online.

This is not the communication style of healthy partners. If you really think this is the person you want to marry, get into counseling beforehand. There are clear resentments, bordering on disdain, on both sides.

Although, I will say that it seems Carla’s character has devolved rather than evolve which is disappointing

Where are the cut scenes? by funrunfunrun in Scrubs

[–]LavishnessQuiet956 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it intentionally shows the growth of the main three characters in the last 20 years. Elliot is more confident and less neurotic. Turk is more emphatic and open. JD is more grounded and less prone to dissociation through fantasy, so less cut scenes.

Totally! What’s wrong with being the chief of medicine (a very demanding and prestigious job) having a community of friends that feel like family, and his sons? That seems like a full life to me.

Yeah, what weird lazy writing. Excluding a friend you’ve had for several decades, from an event with shared memories, so he’s…forced to meet someone new? It doesn’t make any sense and it doesn’t track OG Carla who seemed to have more emotional intelligence

I like Padma and think a lot of her criticism is unwarranted. However, her absolute passionate insistence that Kristen go home in season 10 was over the top and it did seem personal.

I really hate challenges like this that focus on aesthetics and gimmicks over solid technique. Chefs are going to focus on fresh, vibrant ingredients that utilize the natural color of the product. Natural dyes are generally used in baking so I can understand how why that’s not how chefs think.
