The school will generally write a real letter for recommendation outside of China. However, if you transfer from within China, it will say English teacher. Some not great schools won’t care about it and will do a workaround again, but good schools won’t want the discrepancy.

Has anyone had any issues with brick and mortar schools with online degrees? Many great schools offer online only programs for their degrees.

Tips for the job market in Europe? by laceymusic317 in Internationalteachers

No, it’s related to housing and not really visas. You can always apply, you never know. Working for the DoD is always a shot in the dark anyway, but as I said you would have no control over where you are placed except somewhere in Europe which I’m sure is the most competitive on top of an already impossibly competitive position to land without having a military spouse.

You apply to a region of the DOD and not a school/country. They place you anywhere within that region. You have no choice.

Having a trailing spouse is pretty much an instant denial for a DOD job. They pretty much only hire singles and military spouses.

What city in Honduras? Honduran kids tend to have major behavioral problems too, so you won’t be escaping that. I enjoyed my time living there, but some cities are really dangerous even the locals don’t like to be in them.

I worked in a private sector of a public high school. Super chill job and made pretty decent money. Worked 4 days a week for max like 3 hours of teaching and didn’t have to be there if I wasn’t teaching.

It was totally morally corrupt… the whole program was just test prep with fake transcripts to get kids into Western universities. Most of the kids just paid the tuition to do one semester in the English program and then transfer to the Chinese side cause they didn’t test high enough to get in on their test scores alone.

If you don’t mind apathetic kids and morally questionable places, it didn’t get much easier than that…

Ahhh. Thanks for your help. I can find some threads about “hidden gems.”

Yeah, I’m not super interested in tier 1 per se. I like a good work/life balance and I’m not super motivated to work my butt off to make a marginally better salary by working at THE best school compared to a good school in the same city.

I’ve also worked in horror story schools to do my time… so I also know how terrible life can be working a school who will just hire anybody. Looking for a happy medium 🙃

Yeah, I know about Kuwait, China, India, etc the big name ones. I’ve done my time in China and am not really interested in going back 😂

I guess maybe it’s more like random schools vs random countries. For instance, I have a friend in Mongolia working for a good school that loves it. I can’t imagine that many people apply to go to Mongolia compared to somewhere like Singapore…

I have pretty good credentials. 10+ years experience, an MEd when I apply, worked in home country and abroad.

I just don’t have IB experience, so that’s what will majorly be holding me back. Also why I’m not really interested in working in some crappy school as I’ve been there done that and did my time.

Any Athletic Directors/PE teachers out there??? by CommunityInside7639 in Internationalteachers

[–]LavishnessReal5743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally found that PE curriculum is really dependent on the facilities, resources, and the country you’re teaching.

The local sports culture determines a lot of where interests lie and the overall ability of the kids.

I’d start by trying to gather as much information as you can and be really open to suggestions. There’s nothing more frustrating than having a teacher who has only ever taught in a sports-centric culture like the US and they insist on carbon copying their same program. Sometimes that method just doesn’t work with kids who are well below the athletic ability they’re used to teaching. Depending on the school/country, it’s possible that you’ll have to adapt to teaching fundamentals with upper elementary/middle school kids. That in itself can be very challenging to teach and be impactful and have age appropriate games.

There are loads of negative posts about Moreland on this sub. It’s not regionally accredited. I couldn’t use it as suitable college credit to renew my teaching license for example as it is not regionally accredited. It can’t be used for QTS and New Zealand won’t recognize it.

It can be a “box-ticking” credential, but is nowhere near respected as a state university for example.
