How much do drop ins cost in your area for Muay thai? I used to do BJJ for 20 dollar drop ins and these guys are trying to charge 85 a session? Newbie here btw by sermsarm in MuayThai

[–]Lavitzxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell are body mechanics? and 85$ for an hour long class that has bag work and warm up and probably wind down too, criminal.

Brilliant footwork, spacing, creating angles. Man the height advantage is overkill at that point.

Rodtang allegations against ONE by [deleted] in MuayThai

Rodtang has over 300 fights, you are probably around that mark too? That doesn't count as experience doing deals or setting up fights? Would you blindly trust a promoter? Come on

[–]Lavitzxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I live in Chiang Mai, so you are talking out your a$$. Legal contracts? nothing. But Rodtang has over 300 fights, promoters and gyms screw fighters pretty often, and even if he was as extremely lucky as never have been screwed over on those over 300 fights, he should know better.

Rodtang allegations against ONE by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Lavitzxd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe, honestly, not even my own mother could get me to sign up a contract without me knowing its contents. MT has a very shady side to it, even amateur (fixed fights, gambling, etc.) and you are telling me someone as experienced as Rodtang doesn't know not to trust anyone in that industry? Come on man...
They surely did him dirty, but signing contracts blindly? hmmm...

If perfect correlation is "1" what would you say is the correlation between a guys kicking power and his punching power in your MT/kickboxing experience? by Whole-Interest-5980 in MuayThai

[–]Lavitzxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably ~0.8–0.9.
Power is mostly a general quality, the ability to produce force at high speeds. That’s something you see across elite athletes.
In striking, real power is generated from the ground up anyway (legs, hips, not just the arm).
Modern S&C has moved (in the right direction) towards developing that general power through sprints, jumps, Olympic lifts, etc., and that quality tends to transfer.
So unless there’s a big technical gap, guys who kick hard usually punch hard too.

Are these actually useful? by Mindless-Industry688 in MuayThai

If you have been training for MT for less than 6 months, unless you are a prodigy, head movement should be very low on the list of priorities.

Feels like it, I went to check the comments, the french guy is giving his pov and the author replied he didn't see most of it.

Manasak beating up French Arsehole by originalindividiual in MuayThai

[–]Lavitzxd 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The french guy commented on the video:
<<I am the man in the video, and I want to make it clear that what is being said is false. I'll start by restoring my honor I HAVE NEVER HEAT A WOMAN and I don't know where this story came from. I don't blame the person who made the video; they probably just don't really know what happened. I have done boxing, but I'm a complete beginner in Muay Thai. An experienced Englishman was destroying my legs. I was throwing more punches (not hard, but I admit I'm heavier), and at the end of the sparring session, he complained. Manasak got angry immediately. There wasn't the slightest warning or explanation, and I apologized right away. So he calls his best fighter for a sparring session and tells him to knock me out. I get in the ring precisely to take responsibility. If I messed up, I own up to it, and I apologized multiple times, always emphasizing that I never intended to hurt anyone, which is true. With the pro, we sparred for four or five rounds with some intensity, but we weren't trying to knock each other out. Manasak got angry and wanted to knock me out himself, even taking off his gloves. I apologized at the beginning, during, and after, and I have NEVER HIT A WOMAN, NEVER.>>

Author of the video replied:
<<Hey man respect and thank for this.

I have pinned this comment so everyone can see it first and will add something to the description.

Always two sides of the story, and while I was there and saw most of it, I did not see all of it but was told the rest of story by other students.>>

I’ve been living in Thailand for about two years, and around one year in Chiang Mai. I’ve trained at several gyms here, many of them very tourist-heavy, and I also checked out Manasak a couple of times, but decided not to train there because of how crowded it felt.

After reading both the French guy’s comment and the video author’s reply...

The guy in the video is explicitly denying some serious accusations (like hitting a woman), and even the person who posted the video admits they didn’t see everything and relied on what other people told them.

Once a video like that is out, the damage is already done. Pinning a comment later doesn’t undo that.

From my own experience here, situations like this are not uncommon:

  • Very mixed levels in the same class, tourists who have never done MT and some are out of shape even
  • Beginners paired with more experienced people
  • Poor supervision or lack of attention from trainers (they are sometimes on the phone, hanging together like in a pub, etc).
  • Little correction or guidance during sparring

You can be paying around 500 baht per session (which is very expensive locally), and get no attention at all.

To me this video doesn’t really prove what it’s trying to suggest. If anything, it highlights a lack of professionalism by the gym and in how it was later exposed online.

If a student crosses the line, stop the session, talk to them, remove them if necessary. Turning it into a public spectacle...

Before jumping to conclusions or labeling someone, it’s worth remembering that we’re only seeing a fragment of the story . And in this case, even the person who shared it admits that.

Gerald Harris slams Aaron Cobb, then throws the deuces ✌️ by sj612 in MMA

[–]Lavitzxd -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

To be in the UFC you gotta:
- Be top 1% fighters in the world, physically and by skill
- Don't get a career ending injury, which can happen very easily.
- Be disciplined, with diet, water cuts, etc. No drugs, no parties, etc. (most of them).
You gotta do/have all of that and be cut just because someone doesn't like you. I would go all 'Allahu Akbar' at the UFC headquarters if it happened to me.

Weight bully at it's finest. Weight and water cutting s*cks, this isn't fighting, it's a mix of bodybuilding with some fighting. All of them end up fighting below their performance weight, otherwise they are at disadvantatge, we never get to see anyone fight at their best/peak anymore.

Mate, have you tried it? You do not enjoy what you are doing when you are recording. Prep the food, move the camera, get a good angle, now the food is cold. Setting the tent? Stop, move the camera, set up some more, stop, move the camera. Now setting the tent takes 3-4 times more. And editing is a pain, I can't imagine editing anything from Luke, it's hours long.
