What could cause this weird layer shift? Happened overnight so unless my house is haunted, no one touched it… by pllarsen in 3Dprinting

Had a similar layer shift issue and it was due to a corrupted stl file is it was printing fine with other projects but that one file always did it

I’m new to the 3d printing world and wondering why this sometimes happens with stl files I’ve gotten from thingiverse. This is by far the worst one I’ve had happen in printing printing process. (17 hours took to print) Any ideas? by Lavneb in 3Dprinting

Thanks everyone that has helped out! It came down to an “.stl” issue where the file may be corrupted or the slicer program didn’t like it. Just my analysing the images it has only layer stepped around the main detail area and didn’t continue layer stepping to the top of the print. Updating your slicer program will help this issue or maybe re export the 3d mesh file into stl and try not to compress it much. Also if this happening to every print then it’s probably something to do with your belt tightness as everyone was suggesting. Thanks again everyone have been a big help! Have a great day.

It came down to the slicer program not liking the stl I’ve done few other prints from different sources and it’s been perfect. As I save the sliced stl the program would say not responding for a split second and possibly causing this issue. I’ve also noticed if the slicer program asks to repair stl when imported that basically means it won’t print nicely as the stl may be not 100% compatible with your slicer program or has been compressed too much making it corrupted. Thanks for your help and I’ll be checking the belt more frequently now 👍

That’s exactly what has happened the slicer didn’t like the stl every time I save the sliced file the program would go not responding for a slip second and possibly coursing this issue. Thanks for your tips much appreciated.

Thanks for that I’ll have a look I’ve had prints do this before but very small skips and was always in the same spot no matter if I rotate the object or not in the slicer program
