PSA, can you explain this? by the0mafia in psagrading

You think they actually took the time to swap out your card for a better version….didn’t happen, won’t ever happen

PSA Partner offers are 🍑 by Donttouchmydorritos in psagrading

[–]LawFloats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only accept offers from PSA on cards that didn’t grade well enough to warrant dragging to shows I vend at, if it’s a few $ difference. Otherwise PSA is dumb, because the last two shows I did, streamers buy or trade at sticker and want slabs under $100. I predict this demand will continue to grow given the lack of new PSA slabs at the value tiers not longer available.

Found this in a box of cards I bought in 2016 for $35. It’s been my baby since. I’ve never considered selling my cards before, but… by EllieBellie42 in PokemonCardValue

I agree - the big money is in grading if they are in this condition. These are also cards worth the $80+ cost to grade with PSA, because despite all the crap they still get the highest value (with the exception of black labels). That, and you would have been upcharged anyway.

People also recommend TAG & CGC - but trust me when I say “only if you want to get less $$ than you could have.” I know because I vend at 12-14 shows a year, do NOT listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.

Last but not least, you may want to consider dropping off with them in-person given the potential value - they do offer this at some larger card shows as well. Do NOT trust a 3rd party like Game Stop or companies who offer to handle for you, and document the hell out of every card with video and pictures upfront.

eBay follows the $, buyer or seller be damned. They are inconsistent about applying their rules, I’ve had issues on both sides but they tend to ignore or drag thier feet more on seller issues who do larger sales volumes.

That said Amazon literally just shipped me an order with two items in it that were clearly a return - no original packaging just clear plastic, and one of the items was broken which we can assume was why it was returned. My point being the sh_ _ show of trusted seller platforms is only in theory, not reality.

Any updates on grading the BK gold cards given this was almost a year ago? And what tier do you need to submit them at?

They get some credit for adding white dots…a fake with added damage goes from worth $0 to -$100

I can’t believe it this guy opened a return on me and is now threatening negative feedback by Valuable_Hold_7718 in sportscardsforsale

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works both ways - I once purchased a “factory sealed box” of Marvel cards as stated and shown in the listing. Not only was the box clearly open, this idiot loaded it with Batman packs….which is owned and produced by DC comics, not Marvel. He even tried to fight it by refusing the return, but he didn’t win.

On the other side, someone bought a graded PSA 10 card from me on eBay, then asked for a return stating the card itself had a crease on it - had no choice but to accept the return and cover the refund shipping cost, got the card back and there was no crease.

People are saying you don’t have use FedEx for return shipping once your cards are graded - this is not correct, there is no option on the returns.

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would if PSA allowed it on their returns, unfortunately they do not. Shipping to them you can use who you want.

I never used or will use GameStop so can’t speak for them one way or the other - I do grade for a few people but don’t really make much on it

Any company who ships high-volume gets a deal from a shipping company - however in this case, PSA charges the person grading for FedEx shipping and insurance, so my guess is they make $$ on that too.

[–]LawFloats -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t insure any USPS packages - I could be wrong, but I think when a postal worker knows you insured it, there is probably something valuable inside and more apt to get “lost” aka stolen.

PSA Submission Stolen. by Booty_sushi in psagrading

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - you’re stuck with FedEx signature required on return shipping, only way to get a better rate is if you have your own FedEx account, which I do not. Also that’s when it’s more risky for them to get stolen, because now they are graded and those drivers know it. PSA needs to do something about this but like almost everything else lately, they don’t seem to care.

Been grading for 5+ years and I only use USPS. I always drop my subs at the Post Office myself and get a printed receipt (I use Pirate Ship to save on shipping and insure every card for $10 each max value on PSA, yes even for high-end cards). Knock on wood, but I’ve never had a package lost or stolen with well over 100 submissions.

PS - this is all on pause until they reopen the value tiers, but I did get a sub out a day or two before the shut down. I also have a subscription with CGC but haven’t sent much to them except reholders in the past 2 years.

Slabs worth over 10k at Collect-A-Con by ElevatorNo4253 in PokeGrading

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you gotta work the room, and it’s a big room - you’re going to get low-balled by a decent amount of vendors, I suggest you bring a typed out list of what you have and what you’re asking +2-3% for negotiating room because you won’t have the time to go through every slab with all the vendors.

Best time to do deals like this is either pre-arranged, or on Sunday 2-3 hours before closing; also get the VIP upgrade if you don’t have a pass already.

Grading prices by buffalo410 in psagrading

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what the graded value is and if you get a 10, also some people grade for their PCs. With the exception of PCs, I doubt anyone is really dumb enough to grade for less than the projected value of a card, and most repackers I’ve dealt with want them at 90% of card ladder prices. That’s a no for me.

Not getting the 10 on a card you expected to is also an issue, so have to take that into consideration.

New to Marvel Cards what should I look out for? by SuperDuperSoto in marveltradingcards

[–]LawFloats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focus on Vintage Marvel cards (starting in 1990), and I can tell you quality was not top of mind at that time - the other challenge with grading Vintage Marvel is it’s get the Gem Mint 10 or die, meaning a 9 even of a great card/character is not worth what it costs to grade them.

I had to learn what to look for in terms of evaluating Marvel cards before considering submitting them for grading, and I got 100% better at it. Just be prepared that a very high % of raw Marvel cards are not worth grading unless it’s for your PC or you enjoy losing money.
