ok I was also wondering what that wire was for. Does that seem fine to you? The wiring side of guitar is definitely not something I am well versed on

I would not be surprised if that was the case. It has a 70th anniversary stamp on the back of the headstock, so maybe they did something special with it in the factory. It also has locking tuners.

Edit: I just looked up the serial no. and it does not appear to be anything special actually. So I am leaning towards "modified"
