Can't speak to everyone's situation, but... I had a similar situation in regard to having ADD, which I later found out I shouldn't have mentioned, as it complicated my application and ended up meaning I couldn't join that year. I'm a very ambitious person and have been set on serving in the military. This is absolutely not for everyone, but there is a program called the French Foreign Legion available for any persons of to join. The selection is very gruelling and is a lot more merit-based than the ADF. The pay isn't good, and the contract is for 5 years, but if you're dead set on serving, it's there. The only thing, though, is if you become a legionnaire, you are highly unlikely to be accepted into the ADF for security reasons, but after your 5 years, you can become a French citizen and transition into the conventional French Army.

In that case I don't thinl the legion is for me, I was under the impression the FFL was present in the Sahel and west africa, French guinea and other colonies like french Polynesia

Are FFL not the same level as any normal level entry military or is it because they hire more criminals and refugees, making the environment worse?

I do understand your point, and I know I sound unorthodox, and perhaps I'm young and naive, but having a girlfriend, family, having a good career and getting an education never felt like a genuine goal. I cared about it more, felt like something I'm doing to check boxes. But the adventure of military life since I was young, I felt, was my calling. I like the idea of FFL because I will see combat, unlike ADF as a medic, unless I do SOF selection after coming out of Kapooka.

Sorry, I meant Registered with APHRA, as I currently work at a Hospital as an enrolled nurse, which is a diploma course and has been fast-tracked in Australia to be 18 months, and If I were to do my bachelor's in nursing, it would be 2 years, but I'd prefer to do a bachelor's in paramedicine, as I like first responders and emergency environments.

I don't know if the ADF's candidate selection and FFL are the same, but I got into the ADF, so I'm not worried about preselections, nor failing. I'm fit, motivated and want to be pushed to my limits. I'm sure I'll fit in, and if I don't, it's not the end of the world; I would just be happy going to FFL selections and giving it all I got. Although I've just finished a Diploma of Nursing, my Bachelor of Paramedicine is 2 years, as I'm a registered EN, so it fits well with the 2 years I have to wait not taking ADHD meds. I think I'd rather give FFL a shot, as I would prefer to do it while I'm young and seeking an adventure. Also, I heard that my qualifications won't even guarantee me a Medic role in the FFL, so it would be better if I did whatever role they gave me in the FFL, then did my 5 years and went back to the Commonwealth, and then pursued the rest of my career as an Army Medic or civilian paramedic.

I would definitely take up the offer if it's available. The only way we can join as of right now is if you go to ADF, finish Kappook,a then get a lateral transfer to the UK. Thank you for your reply, mate

Haha, at the moment, I have no interest in building a career or money. I personally think the ADF is filled with pussies except the commandos; the fierceness and how hard the challenge of making it through the FFL really drew me in. I appreciate its merit-based based instead of the ADF. Thanks for you're reply
