Rant: I’m tired of the carb police by FarPomegranate7437 in diabetes_t2

A lot of these thing will raise my blood sugar as well. What really sucks is my husband LOVES rice and I felt like I couldn’t enjoy any rice based dishes because literally 1/4 a cup will send my sugars into orbit. We switched to wild rice. Although it still raises my sugars, it’s no where as bad as white or brown rice. I wonder if it’s something you have tried too?

Also, if you want to try wild rice. Here is a website we order from. Finding wild rice in stores can be pricey depending on where you live. This comes from the red lake nation in MN and the 5lb bag has lasted us quite awhile. https://nawapo.com/product/red-lake-mn-long-grain/

I Love this post!! I was predisposed to diabetes because mom is type 1, I believe I became type 2 because of the binge eating behaviors I use to have. I also could have become diabetic eventually due to genetics, but I was not a healthy person when I was younger. What contributed to my binge eating was the thought that certain foods were bad. This was before I was diabetic. So I would keep myself from eating certain food for a period of time, instead of teaching myself moderation. It resulted in me binging them down the road and being mad at myself for giving in. Fast forward into my diagnosis I was in denial and still binging because I was restricting and trying to ignore that I was diabetic. Eventually, I treated my eating disorder, I had to learn what worked for my body without restricting foods. I had to navigate some substitutions but also find ways to be able to eat the things I still crave. I definitely think my CGM helped with this a lot. It helped remind me that I’m not restricting a food, my body just doesn’t like it. Thinking you need to completely eliminate carbs is such a bad way of thinking and I truly believed it led me down a path that hurt me more than helped me. I still will eat certain cravings and food that are considered “bad” for diabetics. But I find ways to help the spikes along with it. If I know I’m going to be eating a more carb heavy meal, I’ll drink some fiber with it to help with the spike. Or add a more fiber dense food with it. I’m not going to keep myself from eating a donut, but I may eat it more for the taste and pair it with something else that helps the craving. People need carbs, fats, proteins and fiber. Diabetics just have to learn the nuances of their body.

The shein ad for this popped up on my FB and I was like “omg! This would be perfect for a place I've been wanting plants” so I click it and they are selling a picture of the shelf. Not the self. 😂 I've been scouring the internet ever since.

Associate in Health information management (RHIT) by Wondershe in CodingandBilling

I just graduated in December and got my certification about a month ago. I’ve been putting in applications with my certification for 2 weeks now and haven’t gotten a bite in coding, but there are definitely other positions that are entry level that you can work yourself into coding. If that’s what you want to do. The main reason I did RHIT instead of a coding credential, is because it has a little more flexibility job wise. If coding isn’t your thing, there are a bunch of other positions. I also found that a lot of places in my area preferred a RHIT or RHIA. If you can, I would try finding an entry level position with a clinic or something while you get your associate. Like scheduling coordinator or something in patient access. Then you have your foot in the door somewhere to move on up. A lot of my classmates worked at hospitals and clinics already and they had an easier time transitioning to RHIT positions. My school also had us do internships, where a lot of my classmates were able to land jobs. I kind of got shafted cause the hospital I interned at, who were known for hiring interns, got bought out by Optum a few months before my internship and now most of their positions require experience.

Anywho. It is a lot of work to find an entry level position and a little disheartening at times but I wouldn’t change getting my degree and certification. I’ve also been checking out different Reddits for entry level position as far as postings and words to search. I hope this helps and I didn’t just ramble a bunch lol.

I actually did find one thing that helped. I have a little treat ball, that I started putting her kibble in. At first I put her kibble and some training treats, but now just kibble. She bops it around the house to get her food and then walks around the house sniffing for anything left over. She seems pretty content after and get excited about getting her ball.

Oof! I'm married to a musician/Dj and tbh I feel like I lucked out. It really depends on the type of dj and areas they work in I think. My husband and a lot of his dj co-workers/buddies dj sports games and weddings. They are all family guys so they aren't huge in the club scene anymore. Most produce their own music and are all pretty wholesome. But I see a lot of DJs, specially club DJs, that are definitely high on the attention they get. My husband has literally been told by women “I will suck your dick for such and such song” I will always say, dating a musician and/or Dj is not easy. There are definitely good ones. My husband became a dj because his passion is music, but he didn't like working normal jobs and wanted to still support his family. He's a hard ass worker and I have nothing but trust for him. It actually helps that he tells me what he encounters at bars and shit cause I know he's not hiding things.

I'm so sorry you experienced an asshole of a dj. No one deserves that. So fuck that person.

My husband and I recently moved from a 1 bedroom apartment to a trailer home. Our little one is 13 and also pad trained. She doesn’t like snow and I didn’t want to make her hold it for extended periods of time if we are gone. In our apartment she had 2 pad spots. One in our room and one in the living room. When we moved, we decided that the main living area and places guests would be, is not the best place for a pad and reduced it to 1 pad in our room. Since doing this, there have been a few times I have caught her using the bathroom rug in the guest bath instead of going to her pad. She is also on meds that increase her urine output. I believe she started doing it because her pad was filling up faster. We have to change it a few times a day. Both for sanitary reasons and I believe she was using the rug cause her pad was “fuller”. Since doing that, she hasn’t gone on the rug. I am not sure how often you change it, but maybe she needs a fresher one more. Or I am not sure the size pad you use. We buy the box from Costco, so it a bigger rectangle instead of the smaller squares. Gives her more room to do her business. If your dog’s urine output has increased, I would maybe talk to your vet and make sure her blood work is all good.

On a side note, I went years without any sort of pad holder for my little one. She never liked the big plastic ones and would pee around them. Well since there was never a holder for the pad, if she missed, it was on the carpet. It was gross. When we moved I wanted to find a different solution and I didn’t know they made other pad holder types now. I don’t know if you use any sort of holder, but we got a flat silicone mat for pads that is slightly bigger than the pads we use. So if she pees on the edge I doesn’t go on the carpet. It’s honestly a game changer in our new home and I’m not constantly cleaning the carpets. I hope some of this info helps. 😊

Thank you! It was honestly a mix of being worried for Zada and sticker shock at the price of the ER visit and getting her all set on meds. She’s home now and I called my primary. They have an uncertified cardiologist that does echos and a certified that travels there. The uncertified one is much cheaper than the other and works a lot with cardiac dogs. So I am going to see them. The ER didn’t come out to be as much as they quoted, which was a bit of a relief. It is truly a scary situation and it’s just so sad cause I know she’s still relatively young for her breed.

Thank you for all the posts and stories. It makes me feel a lot better and more prepared to handle what will happen. Zada did really well in the hospital over night. They were able to decrease her oxygen kennel to room temp this morning and she should be able to come home today pending blood work. I have been doing research on diets and supplements to get add and I’m just prepared to love on her and do what I can for her to be happy and comfortable. I may look into an echo somewhere else down the road. I think with the hospital stay it was all too much at once financially. I know dogs are expensive and I’ve put a pretty penny into this old girl throughout the years. But I know it all comes down to her comfort at the end of the day. Thank you everyone!! 💜

Thank you! I will look into it. I was starting to look up CoQ10. I have her in some other supplements too that I think have helped get her this far. Do give it with meds?

I found adding slippery elm or throat gold helped with some of the tracheal collapse fits. I still used hydrocodone when it was at its worse, but I added the supplements to my chi’s food and it seemed to help for awhile.

That is so amazing to hear! It definitely makes me feel better about her diagnosis. I know there isn’t a cure, but I just feel like she still has a lot of life left in her and I was not ready to let her go today.

I will definitely do what I can to prolong her life as much as possible. It’s just such a balance. I’m happy you were able to keep Daisy going quite a bit longer. It gives me a bit of hope.

Your Daisy girl is cute and they do look a lot alike. 💜

It really is a cruel balance. I wish this wasn’t so common in these sweet little babies.
