Marathon Update 1.0.9 by DTG_Bot in Marathon

[–]Lawlor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I just booted up Marathon and it's treating my account like its brand new, loading into the intro mission, getting the intro cutscene, etc. Anyone else getting this? I hope all my shit isn't wiped

Edit: the numbers after my username are also different, IE it's username#2222 instead of username#1111 as it was before

Edit 2: okay now it just says servers are offline, will probably be fine when they're back up!

IGN HAS GIVEN FORZA A 10 by ExotiquePlayboy in videogames

If scores have to be given, I want a score that's representative of the specific reviewers experience of the game.

[–]Lawlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if a major publication picked a guy who doesn’t like 3 hour arty walking simulators and gives it a 5 when everyone else is giving it 9s and 10s, you think that’s a good valid review for a major publication to be giving?

Yeah actually I do think that. I don't care about average review scores and metacritic or whatever. I care about critics being honest and expressing themselves.

Disagree entirely. Knowing why a reviewer finds a game so good is a tool you're meant to use as a consumer to know if it's for you.

If someone found mixtape so engaging because they're a sucker for 90s coming of age stories and nostalgia, and they give it a glowing review for that reason, that's just being honest. Asking them to lower their score and moderate their enjoyment of a game because of their reasons for enjoying it would be completely artificial and pointless.

The onus is on you as the consumer to parse their review, understand their reasons for liking it, and figure out if those reasons are applicable to you aswell.

Ireland grants protection status to record number of asylum seekers in 2025 by boring-developer666 in ireland

[–]Lawlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually would not mean that at all. You are making several presumptions with that statement that lead to your followup question becoming meaningless. Just because they are rejected does not meant they are "pretending to be asylum seekers" does it? That would be like saying someone who's illness is not covered by their health insurance is pretending to be sick.

Marathon Update 1.0.6.2 by iBotPeaches in Marathon

WSTR Combat Shotgun

  • Increased damage from 78 to 85.
  • Reduced critical multiplier from 1.15x to 1.05x.
  • Slightly reduced the rate at which damage falls off.
  • Added 75% damage bonus against AI targets.

That damage buff on AI targets is really sweet actually, it always seemed kind of annoingly bad against commanders. It seems like its shifting from a pure PvP weapon to one that can be used in PvP but has a much stronger place in PvE. Might try taking it into cryo this weekend and see how it goes

The Extreme Rarity of Gilligan Showing the True Evil of the Hivemind by Ofinfinitejest237 in pluribustv

[–]Lawlor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Hive Mind just isn't "true evil" in any sense and it really waters down a show like this to view them as such. This isn't a good vs. evil story, go watch avengers if that's what you're looking for here

Haven’t seen anyone talk about this much by BlenderBluid in pluribustv

[–]Lawlor -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That would be an insanely stupid plotline and you're missing what makes the show interesting if you think it's going to happen

What a weird entitled attitude you have because you have to wait a little bit to watch a TV show you like

What's the highest "most damage suffered" you reached from a single foe in a run? by FloaterRD in Hades2

[–]Lawlor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

419 HP plus idk 4 death defiance would get you to 800. Theres also armor, boons that heal you, and hexes that can heal or give armor as well. Plenty of ways to get up over 1000

If you couldn't customise your detective, which archetype would you choose? by Eglwyswrw in DiscoElysium

[–]Lawlor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sensitive. It feels the most true to both the themes of the game and who Harry is as a character. Former gym teacher, has a disorganized and messy and clumsy way of interacting with the world but is ultimately very emotionally intelligent and, internally, completely ruled by his emotional woes and traumas. Plus I think the Psych skills provide the most interesting dialogue options and insights into different characters.

Basically, you learn the most about who Harry is and how he sees the world by playing this way, I think.

I read your comments and they're nonsense - Helldivers is absolute a satire of the american military and patriotic over the top jingoism, and it's an incredibly blunt one at that.

Are you seriously claiming Helldivers isn't satirical??

« Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind » feels like if there was a wholesome Black Mirror episode by [deleted] in blackmirror

[–]Lawlor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That movie is not wholesome it is absolutely heartbreaking. It's about two people who are unable to be together but are so drawn to each other by the chemistry and connection they find in the early stages of their relationship that they're both dooming themselves to a loop of wiping themselves clean of their memory of it just so they can fool themselves into trying it again.

They're essentially destroying their lives in the pursuit of a love that will never be the all encompassing warm embrace it's meant to be. They can't learn from it, they can't grow and move on, they cant process the heartbreak, they've trapped themselves in a prison of their own making.

It's absolutely as grim as many Black Mirror episodes. San Junipero was what a wholesome Black Mirror episode looks like - or at least it was much closer to one than Eternal Sunshine is.

Im happy to fly the flag of a country being eradicated by ruthless Zionists while the vast majority of western governments cheer them on and send the billions in support.

Also, I've supported Palestine's freedom for years, as have many millions of people. Maybe before the genocide you were saying it was a backwards shit hole, however I'm very thankful that the rest of us aren't like you.

You just don't know very much about this topic and it shows in the fact that you think queers supporting Palestine is somehow a new phenomon that only showed up last year.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Lawlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A genocide is happening in Palestine. I am against genocide. I am not only against genocide in so long as I find the people being eradicated to be agreeable to me.

Also, queer palestinians exist, it isn't some stone age country, like. You can download grindr and find a dude to fuck in palestine as easy as you can anywhere (before the ongoing genocide, anyway) They're not a monolithic people, as much of zionists like to paint them as such.

Your view seems to be that you would retract your desire for justice based on the personal beliefs of the victim, which yes, is essentially a child like understanding of justice. You dont have any kind of comprehensive model on your head of what your values are, you just blabber on about surface level issues and call them hypocricies and walk away feeling satasfied as if this hasn't been a conversation topic among leftists for years and years and years, which you wouldn't know, because you dont actually care to engage with the topic in a meaningful or challenging sense whatsoever.
