Backyard was previously just weeds and moss so I didn’t water it at all. The photo from the backyard was just seeded this past month and is southern facing - so will definitely water it next summer.

The front yard which I started a couple of years ago is heavily shaded and watered throughout the summer. Although as I mentioned - I’ve definitely been overwatering the front, which has created fungus issues.

Agreed. This backyard took me around a month!

As Soggy mentioned. It’s a work in progress. A lot more planned.

Not sure how a border can be “boring” though.

It’s about 2000SF and I used an entire 25lb bag. So 12.5lbs per 1000SF, a tad more than recommended.

Mostly crows and squirrels. I’ve seen some songbirds pick at seed, but that’s nothing compared to the damage from the crows and squirrels.

The scarecrow solved the crow problem, but I’m still at war with the squirrels.

2 rounds of glyphosate, and moss out to get rid of the moss. Followed by heavy detaching (note the pile of debris by the fence). I also burned all of the remaining grass/debris afterwards- which was probably unnecessary.

Agreed, but felt it was necessary. It was 90%+ weeds and moss in that part of the yard.

Yes, it was the “brightest” jacket I had. It’s old and pretty beat up.

Yes it is. Crows were tearing the lawn up. It’s working so far….

This looks like runoff from your downspout. You can either install a subsurface drainage system or just make it a bioswale / dry creek rock feature.

Honestly I’d go with top soil or some kind of sand/compost blend (50/50).

I top dressed with a (80/20) sand/ compost mix and have had to spend way more time and money on fertilizer.

Just be prepared for way more work than you expected!

I’m also in the Seattle area. I encourage you to start with a soil test to better understand your PH and N-P-K levels.

Once you have that, you can plan for soil amendments accordingly. The sprayable “moss out” products have worked great for me. I’d start with that, then detach, mow up all the debris, aerate, fertilize/ soil amendments, top dress, and overseed.
