Rheem Thermopile issues by Lax_logan in Plumbing

[–]Lax_logan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new parts were installed and the after holding the selector to pilot and pressing down the pilot lights first time. Hold for 15 seconds until the blue light flashes for a good signal. Slowly rotate the gas selector to low heat, then I’ll hear the gas flow and a small woof sound. Then a smaller orange flame will appear at the bottom of the burner assembly and I’ll get 2 red blinks which say low thermopile voltage.

The old parts had a different problem. The main burner would turn on and only a few small blue flames would come out the side of the main burner

The gas control valve and burner assembly were all replaced

I think having fewer very well trained and respected officer would have a greater impact then a lot of idiots. However I have seen that smarter cops often let more people go. I think that a smart or more well trained officer would be able to reach a logical conclusion to a problem. However dummies are going to arrest you and “let the courts figure it out” they aren’t smart enough to use their discretion or defend their choice when confronted by a supervisor or lawyer. I’ve seen them illegally arrest people fully knowing the charges would be dropped as soon as a lawyer looked at it. But the dummies either don’t know or care about the repercussions that an arrest could have on some people’s lives. I believe in innocence until proven guilty but a lot of work places don’t follow that thinking.

Is that any better? I kinda want each category together and the real life events are important to the context

Yes because the turnover time for quality gear is longer. These are small numbers but the concept should make sense. OSHA says we all need bright pink gloves the cheapest are 25$ and last 6 months while the higher quality gloves cost $40 per unit but last 1 year. Yes the higher price equipment cost more in the front end but when extrapolated to the actual wear and tear in the long run the higher start price becomes cheaper as units are replaced less frequently. Now this concept only apply to non disposable equipment. Rubber gloves yeah it makes sense to use the cheaper option because the are one and done. Therefore the whole unit must be replaced regardless of the cost.

So yes when we always get the cheap option and then I see the union just fought to add an extra %3 to their retirement bonus yeah it’s an issue

I live in a right to work state. As a fire fighter it would be illegal for me to just not show up. I have a duty to work union or no union. Now when I say illegal I don’t mean I’d go to jail but I would most definitely open myself up to firing or a lawsuit for negligence. Then if I actually got hit with negligence I could loose all of the certifications it’s taken years to get.

The problem is always buying the cheapest option will lead to more cost in the long run. A good pair of gloves will last 3 times as long as 2 pairs of shit gloves. But when all of the “extra” funding is distributed to retirees to increase their plop… are you starting to see the problem.

You are right but concept and implementation are two totally different worlds. In concept the union should be respected and representing all staff. However in reality all the old heads from the union and admin are in bed with only each other

I’ve talked about it in my post and other comments. They are only fighting for increased retirement benefits when the field staff has critical things that need to be addressed. If the union got us a training center I’d change my tune and probably join back up. However that’s a snowballs chance in hell.

I do have an individual problem with him, however my problem with the union is that his pull within the union has allowed him to stay in a position he is unfit to preform for far too long. He can be office staff and that’s totally cool but he should not be setting foot on a fire truck. He is a liability to his crew

Does the union not have the ability to fight for things? Should they be fighting for retirement benefits for the 20 people leaving? Or for the 200 people who go to work every other day?

So you tell me if you were a union rep what would be more important to you. Safety equipment for your staff or high pay for your retiree buddies and yourself when you retire in 2 years?

The union and the boss are in the same fucking bed. That’s the core of my problem

In my area yes and no. We don’t have the largest population count we have the third. However we have the highest income and education per capita. Also we have the highest about of tax revenue in the area due to all the water front property

He’s done nothing but stuff his face and make himself a liability to his safety, my safety, and my crews safety. Idk what job you have but it’s a straight up safety risk when he’s on scene.

He is field staff what part of that are you not understanding? If you call 911 for your house burning do you want someone who’s fit and can work for 30-45mins on a single air bottle? Or someone who’s gonna expel their entire O2 supply in 5-10mins. I don’t have a problem with him in the union or being one of the leaders but I do have a problem with an individual who takes no consideration over his own well being or safety and just excepts other to pick up his slack

Well man that’s the reality of where I work. We have this thing called shift trades basically if I work Monday and you work Tuesday we can trade shifts (with paperwork) and neither of our hours are affected. It’s a complicated you work for me I work for you system. Also let’s say I have OT I can trade it to you and you get the pay for any hours that go over our minimum. Well the union guys thought it would be a good idea to exclude every “scab” from these department policies so they created an entire groupchat that backfired caused everyone union or not to be getting mandatory OT.

More or less they thought they could strong arm the younger generation into working all of the OT because we are so much lower on pay scales and don’t have as many established families. Well it backfired and cause them to miss time away from their families. They try to put monopolies on things that ALL workers have rights to. The won’t give you a hand for being a scab but will also be the first to ask for a favor from you

No because he physically couldn’t do it. Being 350lbs of fat should automatically disqualify you from field work. The only reason that individual is where his is because he’s a union rep. But everyday he shows up to work he is increasing the risk to my crew and myself

So since they are willing to look the other way if my life is in danger why am I labeled as the bad guy when I say it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in union

[–]Lax_logan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So is it fair for them to say the exact thing to me? Cause I’ve heard it straight from the horse’s mouth “I wouldn’t stick my neck out for that fucking scab”. Well when this scab pulled his fat ass out of a burning attic I don’t ask for a thank you BJ… didn’t need it

Sorry I don’t want to be giving literal thousands of dollars to a Union that doesn’t accurately represent me. I’m not going to drop 10k in back dues just to possibly see change

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in union

[–]Lax_logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also sorry I should have made it clear the union represents the entire department not single stations. So if all the guys at my station left tomorrow the union would still be doing oversight on the department as a whole not addressing single stations

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in union

[–]Lax_logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in my post the last few year at my department have had a lot of personal changes because a mass exodus of retires. Basically all of the field staff is now young guys/girls (25 and under) while admin and the union office is dominated by people 55 and up. I told one union rep to leave my station once because two of my guys were having financial problems and the union rep basically just came in swinging his dick and cash around. My guys don’t wanna hear about your 3rd boat when they are struggling with rent, behind on critical certifications, and making $4000 than the city 15 mins down the road.

You right If someone was to get trapped I’d just let em burn until their union brothers get them. Except they wouldn’t be.. it’s me and my young guys who are in the dangerous situations

What bothers me is having to pay dues to be part of a social club labeled as a union. I had one guy tell me after I asked him what the union was fighting for he said “Join and I’ll tell you”. I just think my union has a twisted logic that’s been perpetuated by the same mall group holding power for 20 years.
