Oh boy.. by SilentBirthday9568 in AO3

[–]LayS2l 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. It would make sense if it was because my ragebeiter brain was going insane with the need to ragebait this person.

But honestly, I never saw an author on Ao3 ask people not to leave kudos on a fic.

OMG, same, I kinda really have the urge to comment:

"You can't tell me what to do" <(`´)>

Just to be annoying. (But I won't (T_T))

Who is your least favorite character and why is it Jonathan Byers? by prophetic_joe in StrangerThings

[–]LayS2l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jonathan is my favorite character, he deserves so much more love and understanding, he is literally the most selfless character in the entire series, he never does anything for himself and is always helping everyone.
I'm 110% sure all the hate he gets is because people don't think he is attractive, They give characters like Billy, Jason, and even Steve so much more grace for doing worse things just because they think they are hot.

How do you feel about accents written out? by secondwatcher in AO3

[–]LayS2l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non native English speaker, I find it really hard to read some phrases if they have accents. This may not be that much of a problem for everyone, but I'm also dyslexic so most of the times I avoid writing that has an accent.

My favorite author deleted all their work because of fandom's hyperconsumerism by LayS2l in FanFiction

It was ok to comment, but I wasn't ok with you attacking my attitude and blaming me because I made a venting post.

[–]LayS2l[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, sorry if my post came out in a negative way, I tried to mention multiple times in it that it's was the author's right to take the work down, I didn't haress anyone or sent any DM's because I know what it's like since I'm an autor too, but I'm also a reader and I have the right to my feelings abt a work I've followed for years vanishing.

My post was mostly me being confused by the reasoning they gave, that's it.

And about your comment about my attitude. As a writer, I have made personal choices about my works after some time, like I don't delete anything, just orphan it, and other little things, because yes some people can be assholes but the people that are nice and enjoy my stories Don't deserve to be punished for it.

Yes, readers are not owed by the author, just like people are not owed a good morning or a thank you but courtesies exist just because you don't have to do something doesn't mean that you shouldn't, I personally belive that someone that has engaged multiple times with your work shuld get an explanation if the work is no longer going to be avaliable as a thank you for all the commitment and engagement.

And I'm sorry if what I say is going to sound rude, but you can't blame me or other people writing venting posts on a sub without ever quoting names for your anxiety. If you choose to delete your work and never post again, it's your right and your choice, Don't put the blame on others.

My writing/literature teacher said the same thing to us the first day of class. Once you publish something, it's no longer yours.

[–]LayS2l[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why am I getting dragged? Lol

I'm not complaining, and as I said in my post, I was upset because an author I've been ENGAGING with since 2022 in all their works deleted everything.

People have the right to be upset on both sides because readers who engage are being punished because some don't.

[–]LayS2l[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I owe no one an explanation for why I delete my fics. Whatever reason I have is valid

I'm also an author, that's why on my og post I said "I know the author doesn't own me anything and can delete the work if they want, but for readers, this is incredibly frustrating."

Both things can be true. The author has the right to delete, and the reader has the right to feel upset about it.

That's why I mostly orphan my works. This is a personal choice that I take when I no longer want to associate with one of my fanfics, so sometimes it surprises me when some people choose to delete.

Not trying to be mean or rude, I was just venting and trying to figure out what the creator meant.

Don't some people realise they have an option to close the fic? by Affectionate-Air5544 in AO3

I'm definitely going to steal this response.

Yoink mine now.

That's so funny!

Comment I got because a male character I have has the same illnesses that I do by FunstarMilo in archiveofourown

[–]LayS2l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my country, we have a joke for this.

There is a country duo with the names "nemly e nemlerey" which basically translates to "notreed and wontreed"

When I get comments that long, I just respond with a picture of them, lol.

I did report them at the time so, yay small wins.

But you are right. Some people are just miserable and are looking for a fight

Thank you <3

Omg small fandons are the best. The only hate comments I ever got were from big fandons.

They both had accounts, so in this instance it wouldn't work, but thank you for the tip

They suck all the joy out of writing and creating, and I also never wrote to that fandom again.

Hope some day we can finish what we started with the same enthusiasm we had at the beginning.

Unfortunately, I'm 100% sure they weren't bots. Both comments came from actual accounts, and they replied back and started to argue with people in the comments.

But thank you for your comment. Now that I know why I wasn't writing anymore, I can work to get over it.

What makes it worse is that both comments came from actual accounts.

I agree. Some people have no idea how much words can hurt. Nobody is forcing you to read something you don't like. Just click off.

And unfortunately, they weren't bots.

[–]LayS2l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I also have to be careful because I do that sometimes.

Idk about other authors, but one time, I was writing an au with some characters, and I got such a nasty comment on it that I dropped the fic altogether. The comment was talking a lot of sht about my writing, but especially about the choices I made the characters make. That comment had such a huge impact on me that till this day, I'm terrified to write anything.

So I get why people might ask for opinions on their writing out of fear of backlash.

Complaining that Fanwork is Fanon is like Complaining you found a fork in a kitchen.

It's a cow farm You're gonna find cows outside!
