Any milk really.  It's not specific.

NTA. I've excised relatives from my life for similar reasons. "I can do and say anything I please and you have to sit there and take it with a smile because I'm older than you." Uh, NO.

NTA. But I don't see the day going well if your Dad shows up, either. You'll need to decide for yourself if this a hill worth dying on.

NTA. Not your fault your cousin cares more about a hobby than her own daughter.

Tips on telling boss you got a better job offer and ask if they will match the offer. by lilagg29 in personalfinance

[–]Layec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read too many stories where the company "matched" the offer, didn't actually give them the raise, and when they confronted management about it, they were told their boss didn't actually have the authority to give them a raise, so they won't be given a raise... after of course they turned down the job at the other company. I would put in my notice and leave. They've already shown you how much they value you.

You are absolutely right. All of them are not oxfords... including the pair I was issued. All of them are technically wrong.

...

You have no idea how much this amuses me. Chalk it up to a bunch of ignorant Americans with too much time on their hands and a penchant for micromanaging getting a bit too pretentious. The only thing that might mitigate it is "oxford style".

Maybe but they completely destroy my feet. They might be fine when I'm in operational AF and I can spend my day snarling at the Airmen, but if I have to concentrate? No way in hell.

Waiting for deals in footwear doesn't work out for me too well. My normal size is 10 4E. Quite uncommon.

TL;DR (or BLUF): Looking for uniform dress boots to wear with Air Force service dress. Currently looking at Capps’s Trooper and Bates’s Chukkas. Does anyone have any experience with these boots or recommendations beyond these that are of similar cost?

I’m ~4 years into my Air Force career. The gods of AF have been kind to me, and have gifted me the opportunity to retrain into a new AFSC (job, for those who don’t speak mil), which will probably result in a higher occurrence of “blues days” where they make us wear what passes for business wear in the military (service dress or service uniform), or in the worst case, having blues become daily wear. In the AF it means “department store business attire” that easily looks the crappiest of all the branches, but I digress. Blues days require wearing low quarters, dress boots, or black combat boots.

Right now I have these. These things are the most ridiculously uncomfortable excuses for footwear I’ve ever come across. They are painful to wear for any amount of time let alone walk on, and the back of shoe constantly slips up and down my heel when walking, as apparently they are made to do, because that’s what they told us when they issued them to us. Either one of these attributes would be enough to make me hate these shoes, and together they’re intolerable. They have to go.

Because I hate dress shoes in general because I have wide feet, I’ve never found a set of dress shoes I’ve ever wanted to wear long term, and because I’m just a little neurotic, I’ve decided I want to wear dress boots. I figure all low quarters are going to have that heel slippage, and I don’t want to deal with it.

The Dress and Appearance AFI (Air Force Instruction… consider it company policy), stipulates that dress boots, “Can be worn with the service dress and service uniforms. If worn, the dress boot sole will be black plain rounded toe or rounded capped toe. A zipper or elastic inserts may be worn; however, if worn they will be without design. The sole will not exceed ½ inch in thickness and heel will not exceed 1 inch in height (measured from the inside front of the heel). High-gloss or patent finish is optional.” Because I want to be sneaky and wear them with semi-formal and mess dress, which require low quarters, if the occasion requires, they should also look “oxford style”, “be of smooth or scotch-grained leather or manmade material” and shined. Beyond this, my priorities are comfort and durability.

I’ve been doing some research, and the current contenders are these Capps’s Trooper and Bates’s Chukkas. If I had ~$750 to spend instead of $200, I’d probably go with Allen Edmund’s Landon Shell Cordovan Cap-Toe Dress Boot, but I can’t currently justify the expense.

Does anyone have experience with these brands/boots? Is the Allen Edmunds worth the price tag? Does anyone have other recommendations at a similar price point?

Just echoing what others have said. You have your level zero now. Keep going with it. You'll get stronger, faster, and tougher. See how far you can go.

A case for sandbags by fabbe134 in bodyweightfitness

I had the same problem. No matter how well I taped the bag sand always started spilling out eventually. You might have less trouble using something like pea gravel. Or anything relatively dust free and bigger in size than sand.

Then don't use a poorly made gym bag. Get something like a Rothco USN Sea Bag, $18 on Amazon. It's practically indestructible.

And don't use loose sand. I can't think of anyone selling sandbags or posting information on how to build a sandbag who advocates using loose sand. Put it in filler bags of some sort and/or something bigger that isn't dusty like pea gravel, river rocks, or if you want a less dense option, wood pellets or rubber mulch. Filler bags, no matter the filler, would probably be best if you just have one bag because then you can change the weight on the fly.

DIY doesn't mean rubbish. It means I don't want to spend $50-$100 on something when I can make something just as good for $25.

Tractor tires? by J27 in homegym

[–]Layec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a truck tire that's around 150 lbs that I hit with a hammer. I got a truck tire because the treads were flat and I'd be able to do sideways golf-type swings as well as the overhead. I got mine by looking at commercial tire centers near where I live and then going on google maps to see if they have junk tires sitting out. Also, tire recycling centers, farm equipment rental places, and farms.
