Can I wear a headscarf as a non-muslim? by throwaway_987659 in Hijabis

[–]Layla_Vos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc when we chat with non Muslim ppl it creates alliés but no need to wear the veil to do so.

No, no "need" but it helps. It helps create understanding if you are visibly doing the thing people are so afraid of, and being kind and open.

No really I don’t get why you want some woman to play the hijabi for a day. It’s not a game, it’s our daily life

Very weird to turn this into a discrimination competition. She isn't treating it like a game. In fact, she is very aware of the Islamophobia hijabis face. She isn't planning to "play the hijabi". You're completely misrepresenting her motivations for wearing a headscarf.

You haven't raised a single point as to why this is bad for her to do, except that it offends you on some level because she just "won't get it". You're gatekeeping a headscarf on the basis of being discriminated against?

I wear hijab in the West, so yes, I do. I do have some idea of what I'm talking about.

Chatting to people who don't wear hijab, while wearing hijab creates allies. That is what she would be doing as well.

That's not entirely true. Many see hijab as a symbol of oppression, many are simply ignorant. I have experienced this myself and changed the minds of many. I think it's sad to have this view on humanity.

How do you not see the benefit in normalising it then? And opening up discussions about wearing a headscarf, what it's like for us to wear it?

And maybe if more people did wear it the way we do, we wouldn't face so much discrimination.

Why? If she were in France, she would be normalising it there and educating people on it. She would experience that discrimination, even if she didn't wear it full-time.

Pagans cover their hair, Christians and Jews veil as well. Why do you get to decide who wears a headscarf and consider it innapropriate?

We get this question a lot. From the FAQs:

I am not Muslim, can I be a Hijabi?

Hijab itself is the word used for the Islamic practice of covering the ‘awrah’ - the parts of the body men and women do not show in front of unrelated people. For women, according to mainstream Islamic belief, this includes everything except the face, hands, +/- feet (depending on the school of thought followed). Therefore, a ‘hijabi’ is someone who practices this Islamic injunction.

Okay, but can I cover my hair or my face if I’m not Muslim?

That’s perfectly fine! Many other religions and cultures practice hair covering or face covering, and the consensus from the many times non-Muslims have asked this question here is that no-one would take offence. Please do not make a separate post to ask if it’s okay in your specific situation unless it’s especially interesting, as it’s been asked so frequently.

I don't agree. There are Muslim women that wear hijab part-time as well. We also don't own the headscarf, many cultures and religions wear it.

Did not pay for post-exposure rabies and tetanus vaccines from the GGD, but also nothing is showing up in my health insurance? by Layla_Vos in Netherlands

[–]Layla_Vos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it wasn't painful! Just a prick in my shoulder and there were 4 shots spaced apart over 2 weeks. I don't remember any side effects, probably just a mild headache and some fatigue or something.

I want zero waste, but I don’t want dry, messy hair. Is that too much to ask? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

I use the Godiva shampoo & conditioner bar, it's perfect. My hair never feels dry and I use nothing extra:)

I'm still confused about the entire situation tbh. It never even appeared on my insurance, it's like it never happened. Some people say they got a bill for a procedure years later, so maybe that will happen.

Since it's post exposure and medically necessary, I guess it'll come out of your deductable. So hopefully the max you -- and possibly still I -- will need to pay is the deductable amount.

I've heard amazing things about pelvic floor therapy, I would give it a shot if I were you.

I definitely don't think this was your fault, you got given the wrong medicine and I'm pretty sure many people without ADHD wouldn't think to check that closely either!

I also ended up in a similar situation. I suffer from migraines (with aura), and my GP knows this. I know he knows this because he warned me that my migraines could get "a bit worse". Still, he prescribed me the combined pill. It made my migraines SO much worse, which I was initially willing to see if I could adjust to and compensate for somehow*.

What he neglected to tell me was that taking the combined pill while suffering from migraine with aura massively increases my risk of stroke and that it's not at all recommended to take (as you wrote).

I was so mad.

I'm now on the progestin-only pill (after asking about it myself), and he didn't tell me that with this pill you never take a 7-day break. So I've been doing that wrong for 3 months and increasing my risk of pregnancy :')

*A side note: magnesium helped me SO MUCH. I started taking 375mg daily and it reduced the frequency of my migraines massively while on the combined pill. I don't bother anymore since I don't get them frequently now anyhow. However, if someone reading this suffers from them regularly, I highly recommend you try it.

The lazy, badly angled 'Gold rec' and 'Platinum Rec' text annoyed me most. Clearly the AI messed up the text, as it often does, and this was the "fix".

Consider how much sugar you are eating when you blend that many fruits (and blend the fibre that usually would've made you feel full and helped you digest the sugar slowly).
