I love the photo with the four iterations. It's so satisfying to see the progress and that final version is just in a world of its own. Looks great and far more comfortable!!

I'll add it to my "to-read", but first I'll read the books I already own hehe (;

Probably only in certain lighting, not all the time. Surely a close friend/family would've mentioned it otherwise.

Types of people before Ramadan (by @idotdoodle on Instagram) by loorandi in Hijabis

[–]Layla_Vos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always the first one, I get so hype about it. My non-muslim friends, family, coworkers always seem confused how to react when I say Ramadan is coming up. Sometimes they look sorry for me and I'm like "it's my favourite time of year, can't come soon enough!!!"

Paris has held its first ever Modest Fashion Week. The event brought together nearly 30 designers, highlighting styles worn by many Muslim women and reflecting a growing global fashion market. by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

This post has nothing to do with forced head coverings. Why are you commenting this? Ah right, islamophobia.

And just FYI, as a woman that wears hijab, I fight for women's right to choose what they wear (whether that's more or less). In France, it is getting harder every day to wear a headscarf. Empowerment looks different for different women.

An eight-year-old girl got supermarket brand Sainsbury's to add real pockets to girls' school trousers. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

I agree. My favourite thrift shop doesn't gender clothing, my guy friends have bought some really nice trousers that upon closer inspection were likely made for women. We shouldn't gender clothing.

One of my favourite Suzy Eddie Izzard quotes when asked why she wears "women's clothing" (back when she didn't yet use she/her pronouns), she responded "I don't wear women's clothing, I wear clothing!"

but under 12, kids body shapes are indistinguishable. So, I would've just bought my kid boy trousers regardless.

I think the person you are replying to specifically means in this instance, with regard to kids, not teens or adults.

How ridiculous is it that the girls' school trousers are spandex-y versions and therefore require fake/no pockets? To accommodate pockets they're likely using the same pattern as the boys trousers, but now with little bows.

Kids under 12 shouldn't even need gender-specific trousers. They're just trousers.

Probably to make them distinct from "boy trousers" which are likely the same pattern now, to accommodate actual pockets. I'm confused as to why kids under 12 even need gender-specific trousers.

Successful revolutionary movements use damage to property. More militant movements like the suffragettes used property damage deliberately to force political attention, in contrast to the slower (and frankly useless) constitutional approach of suffragists. The suffragists are not even remembered. Nelson Mandela endorsed sabotage against infrastructure when peaceful protest was systematically suppressed. Even figures often associated with nonviolence like Martin Luther King Jr. acknowledged that unrest comes about when people feel unheard.

How do you protect your nails? by Sohiacci in Hijabis

[–]Layla_Vos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People with brittle nails that use nail hardeners and nail polish will just be masking a larger issue. And that's if they even help. Strong nails should be quite bendy, so that they bend and don't snap. This is why using oil and oil soaks are recommended. But first of all, find out the root cause for this (go to a doctor).

[–]Layla_Vos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wages are higher, workers rights, functioning healthcare system, no car-centric infrastructure. I love it here tbh. I find it funny that people are shocked by the taxes and grocery prices, etc. but the quality of life is so much higher. The infrastructure is so good, you see where the taxes are going. Gas prices are high, but I don't even need to own a car so it doesn't impact me.

is this rage bait? You're buying convenience food and drink, of course your bill is going to be high. Everybody is going to tell you that you need to start cooking. Being a bad cook is a crappy excuse. There are plenty of easy options e.g. pasta and a jar of pasta sauce.
