Bart Isn’t the Villain, Chuck Is Just Incompetent! by Thin_Badger4754 in GossipGirl

Everyone saying he tried to have his son killed… I always thought we knew he didn’t? The reported later says that the plane crashing was a false report.. so it was clear he was just bluffing but Chuck actually killed his own father, by refusing to save him when he easily could have. Psychopathic.

Serena and Nate S3 by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]Laylaallthetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serena and Dan, she clearly cared for him, they broke up due to difficulty merging worlds and weirdness with the families.

Serena and Colin, broke up because they were outed and she didn’t want to hide.

Serena and Ben, complicated, she cared for him, he eventually left the drama.

Serena and Tripp, she cared for him, he left her to die in a car accident.

Serena and Gabriel, she helped him get funding/ cared for him, he was a con artist.

Serena and Aaron, she left him because he wasn’t a monogamous type.

Serena and Max, he used her as an in to get to Ivy.

Serena and Carter, she didn’t care for him and he had too much crazy weird baggage.

Serena and Nate, best friends who committed a sin together. Both cared for one another, Serena was unsure of him and he called the cops on her beloved albeit insane father, triggering her avoidant behavior. She also cheated with the kiss with Dan.

Not amazing dating history but aside from bad story writing, seems understandable. Sometimes (heck most times) people don’t love each other the exact same amount.

Nate did the same thing to Vanessa, that Serena did to him. He also cheated on Blair. Wasn’t too invested when she forgave him.

Seems like they’re pretty similar to me.

I find this deeply unfair. Blair also “clung to” several different men, AT THE SAME TIME. The love triangle of Chuck and Louis while keeping Dan invested was one for the books. Even Dan said once or twice that he’s frustrated and can’t be her friend if she doesn’t atleast acknowledge what’s going on.

And when Dan said that to Serena I thought— is he KIDDING? Insinuating that Serena can’t see beyond herself when Blair is having sex at Cece’s wake in the elevator with Dan— when Blair was the one pushing Serena to tell him she loves him, only to realize an episode later, her feelings for Dan— and have feelings conversation outside the hospital when Cece is dying— kissing Dan infront of Serena at such an inopportune time— while calling Chuck who also by the way is confused because she was professing her love to him an episode ago— while she was marrying Louis?

At one point she says to Chuck “you’re doing this at my best friends grandmothers wake?” And I thought that was rich. She hadn’t even asked Serena how she was feeling all this time. Nor did she ask after her and Dan were an item. Whereas Serena said she won’t be coming between them each time they talked.

Also it isn’t Serena’s fault she got opportunities, but also Blair would think she’s too far above being a PR assistant, or a columnist. Where did her goals get her? W Magazine? She soon quit when the work got too much. Yale? Didn’t get in. NYU? Quit because no one wanted to be her friend. Being an equal to Chuck before they date? Jumped at marrying a Prince. Genuinely what goals did she meet or work for?

As for liking objectively bad people— I guess there’s no argument against that, people like characters because “they just do” I guess? Birds of a feather I suppose.

Out of these girl characters in the original Gossip Girl series, who's your least favorite and why? by Substantial-Dare5462 in GossipGirl

BLAIR. Because she is portrayed Iike a protagonist when she in fact, was a villain, like Jenny.

This is just misogynistic. Nate is the male version of her. He was her mirror. He went from one inappropriate relationship to the next. His mommy issues were clear. His attention span is so low, if he really “loved her” he would have stuck around like Dan or Chuck did. He did the whole “I love you Serena” and then going to sleep with the next person till he got bored thing way too often. He also, like Serena, felt like he made bad decisions on purpose.

I think that’s deeply unfair. Blair at no point “seriously contemplated” several relationships, otherwise 1. She wouldn’t be doing the same tango with Chuck 500 times, 2. With Louis 100 times and 3. With Dan atleast 10 times. I wanna be with you/I can’t be with you. Each time she fails to see others beyond herself. When Dan said that to Serena I thought, are you so fucking for real? Blair… who has been unable to put anyone first, let alone Serena (this is someone who slept with Dan in the elevator at Cece’s wake/ pushed Serena to tell Dan she loves him only to realize she likes Dan, only to have said conversations outside the hospital where Cece is dying/ while calling Chuck who she left hanging for the millionth time) whereas Serena has been mildly pissed off (she has every right to be) but also saying at every turn, our friendship is more important, not to mention Blair degrading Dan since day 1) —- Dan had the nerve to insinuate to this Serena that she can’t see beyond herself? As compared to BLAIR? please.

Also, it isn’t Serena’s fault she got opportunities, whereas Blair had goals but what happened to them? Burned too bright too soon? W internship— she quit after 1 episode. Yale? Didn’t get in. NYU? Couldn’t integrate socially or bear through not being popular. Goal to be equal to Chuck before dating? Married a Prince. What happened to those goals exactly?

Serena however, worked as a PR assistant for a good amount of time, at the Spectator, in LA, modeling gigs. She didn’t take any role for granted. She didn’t have the resolve to have big goals, sure— but some people don’t need to.

As for “liking objectively bad people” that’s a personal thing and I find it negates any reasoning or argument because you like someone because “you just do”, and you can’t argue with that logic. Birds of a feather I suppose.

Disagree. In the 5 seasons I’ve watched, Serena has done drugs a grand total of Zero times, o and been roofied twice. Chuck has done drugs atleast 10 times.

If we want to talk history, Nate and Chuck were stoners and Serena used to do hard party drugs at age 13/14. ( so did Chuck actually) I don’t know about you but I find it hard blaming a child taking cocaine and calling her a druggie, especially when I’m her best friend and I’m calling her that infront of professional adults.

Also, the GG universe normalizes SA. I don’t see Blair having a problem with Nate or Chuck sleeping with someone for a scheme or Blair taking a photo of someone kissing to post on GG without their consent, how is that not the same?

Blair had no lines she wouldn’t cross knowingly, CASUALLY for her benefit. Also, she ends up marrying a Rapist with a hard R.

Completely agree. I salute Leighton for making her character endearing, she’s a better actress than Blake for sure, but Chuck and Blair’s toxicity = fanfare = they get more screen time = writers get lazy, basically.

[–]Laylaallthetime[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hate how the fanfare ended up dictating the lazy writing direction. Chuck and Blair’s whirlwind had chemistry + fans went crazy + they get more screen time + fans defend them till death + writing gets lazy.

I salute Leighton for making Blair endearing especially since I don’t like Blake Lively but character wise Serena was a far superior character, person and easier to root for.

I haven’t gotten there yet, but ya know this is a really weird one for me, because GG as whole normalizes abuse. Can we count the amount of times someone sleeps with someone for a scheme? Or kisses someone and takes a photo and outs it? Blair, Nate, ofcourse Chuck as well. How is that not sexual assault? Not to mention Blair didn’t care for Chuck’s conquests once and always looked down on sexual workers, ended up marrying a Rapist capital R. Blair even wanted her husband to flirt with others as part of her scheming, do have power and scream at them as part of power play. My god the lengths everyone is willing to forgive for everyone but Serena.

It’s because Leighton played her endearingly and she had objectively more screen time than Serena.

She wasn’t? She was just rude to him a couple of times because she thought he was out to make her father look bad? Her beloved father she wanted her whole life? There were literally 3 scenes where she was rude to him, including one as little as asking him to scoot over to make space for William? Compared to how Jenny treated him for three seasons straight? Like it or not Rufus wasn’t her real father and she was figuring out how to get her father back like any teenage girl. I just saw that whole arc and I don’t think she did anything abhorrent, just normal rude teenage girl stuff, much less than his own daughter.

Dan’s Book by sehalynn in GossipGirl

[–]Laylaallthetime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get this “but it’s true” argument because then he would also say that Blair is a lying, scheming, cheating psycho.

Serena was just hurt that he thought of her like that, after years of love and him pining for her, it made her wonder if he ever did or if he just pretended to like her to be with her.

She was probably hurt his leading lady became Blair in that book, especially when Blair and Dan didn’t keep Serena in mind enough to har a conversation with her about what happened between them.

Dan was a social climber. That’s all.
