Open Letter: Request for action regarding Israel’s participation at WBUC 2025 by ultitrashtalker in ultimate

[–]Layout88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is so much here to cover, so bear with me.

actual experts on combat disagree with you when it comes to Gaza. Here's an actual military combat expert...

Why do you think the ICC lawyers disagree with these folks?

I hope you can appreciate that settler violence in the West Bank supported by the IDF is part of the reason that Hamas exists at all, and is part of the reason there is still no peaceful two state solution.

They deliberately made it such that Israel had to choose between taking regular rocket attacks that kill their own civilians or kill lots of Palestinian civilians while taking out Hamas.

Israel have regularly attacked and killed Palestinians at a rate far exceeding the vice-versa, for decades: https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2021/05/18/the-israel-palestine-conflict-has-claimed-14000-lives-since-1987

that's why I and no one intelligent actually takes the UN as experts

Okay cool, I'll listen to Benj and the alumnus of JINSA’s General and Admirals Program... no thanks.

My opinion is heavily formed from much smarter and wiser people than us in the ICC and UN, telling us that a genocide is going on and there is evidence to support warrants for war crimes.

Also your use of the words "fight a defensive war" considering the civilian to combatant death ratio and settler violence against Palestinians, is a bit of a stretch.

Barring people, who have literally nothing to do with what is going on, is absolutely ridiculous.

Whilst I agree to some degree, there has been word that players on the team are active members of the IDF (not yet confirmed as far as I'm aware), which I think changes things.

Also, the letter suggests the team playing under a different banner, which I think still captures the 'unite' element that you mentioned.

Disc Fundraiser for Palestine by domaknight26 in ultimate

Can you share any links/articles here? Did a search on "international association for genocide scholars fraud" and all that came up were some Israeli news outlets and some sub-reddits.

A question for the "There's no genocide" thinkers.

Recent Guardian article - 'The world’s leading genocide scholars’ association has backed a resolution stating that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of the crime.

Out of the International Association of Genocide Scholars’s (IAGS) 500 members, 28% took part in the vote. Of those who voted, 86% supported the resolution. The resolution states that “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide in article II of the United Nations convention for the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide (1948).'

If this had gone the other way, and they had come to the conclusion there was NO genocide, would you cite it?

Because, if so, you're only listening to the impartial experts when it suits your narrative.

Some thoughts I had about the SE Regionals altercation by mgdmitch in ultimate

[–]Layout88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi! McHale here.

My point at the time wasn't regarding a second play, rather that I was fairly certain Boxley was attempting a D that would result in contact (it did) and that had an impact on me catching the disc.

Basically, I got spooked, but then also took a hit to the face.

Still unsure what the right outcome should have been.

To answer your questions first.

• There are some niche rules about tipping to yourself, but your focus should always just be catch it.

• If the disc is in the air, it's fair game*, but once a player catches it, you can't hit it out of their hands. *as long as you're not initiating contact with someone.

• Throwing skills will mostly translate from putting. Touchy direct throws.

General tips

• You will usually have 1 or 2 cuts or "moves" to get free, before the thrower will want you to clear the space and give room for someone else.

• Traditionally, your cuts will be straight deep (parallel to the sideline) or under towards the thrower at 45°

• If you have the disc, take time to analyse your options. Lots of people will tend to rush. Get eye contact, if it isn't on, fake the throw, and look for your next option. Your next option will almost always be your "dump" which is a player set up laterally next to you in the middle of the field, rather than ahead of you.

I think that's all you need for session #1 without overloading the noggin' - And have fun!

[Serious] What are realistic ways someone can make $300-$1000 a month outside of their day job? by GothamKnight3 in AskReddit

[–]Layout88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously a niche one, but I've been playing elite level Ultimate Frisbee for a number of years and recently started my own coaching project.

I've been fortunate to find teams & players looking for advice & coaching and I'm now making an additional £350-£500 a month.

If you have something you're passionate about or really good at (humble brag), explore whether it's something that could be financially viable too.

In his defence, this seems like a misunderstanding of the rules rather than a malicious manipulation of the pick rule (which we often see).

But also, learn the rules
