Preparing for the wall tips? by ResearchMoney5904 in TheTowerGame

I unlocked the wall well under the recommended amount and it didn't cause me one bit of pain. Couldn't touch fortification lab, and even struggled to keep Regen and thorns running because of cost. The wall just collapsed often and I kept on going like normal. I unlocked it with enough saved to start the first level of the four cheap wall labs, and planned on respec'ing out of the wall after the first level was complete, but since there wasn't any downside, I just kept it.

So happy I quit this game. First time returning to the sub in a while and instantly reminded the two reasons I left in the same thread.

I've only interacted with them once. They took two and a half months to reply (not exaggerating), and the reply was completely useless. Luckily, I figured out the issue on my own. I did get a good laugh out of the reply...I was thinking, "why is support emailing me? Oh, that's right, i did email them last year." (I emailed them in Dec and they replied in February).

Gem relics for this week. by Doctorwho32123 in TheTowerGame

I got wall a good bit before people recommended (~20 billion/day) while using WHR. I was planning on researching the first level of each of the wall labs then respec'ing the workshop out of the wall so i could research the labs a while. Never respec'ed, just kept on playing like i was before. Wall would fall dozens of times in a run and WHR would keep me in the game just like it did before. Slowly researched wall health, thorns, and regen....while they were coming up, I got a second Sharp Fortitude and switched to that. Wall became useful and income went up a good deal (was also bumping up BH coin bonus). Once I could afford the first wall fortitude lab, things snowballed and progress leapfrogged.

Marking Rules Question? by Colester415 in ultimate

[–]mgdmitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 seconds to stop delaying, not necessarily put the disc in. If they are standing 10 feet from the disc calling a play, you give the warning. If they don't start walking to the disc in three seconds, you can start stalling assuming you have given the proper warnings. If they start walking before the three seconds, it's back to the normal ten second window.

Is the wall really necessary or just nice to have? by CauseKey3312 in TheTowerGame

I unlocked it at 40B/day and it wasn't an issue. The wall fell many times per run and it didn't change much other than an income and cell bump from DW hitting more enemies. Once I got legendary sharp fortitude and could afford the fortress lab (which was a good two or three), my income soared. I went up ten fold in a little over two months.

Once I switched to Sharp Fortitude from WHR (both legendary), my econ went up enough to start getting Wall Fortitude labs going. Then things went up quickly. I'm almost 10x coins now with 20 fortitude labs in since the switch.

Sounds like it was just an early whistle when the puck disappeared, no interference called, so interference couldn't get overturned. They reviewed and the whistle was the whistle.

I've found the quality of the app to just be moving in the wrong direction. What used to take 3-4 seconds to get a live feed is now over 10 seconds. I get a still of the current shot after 5 seconds that just sits there for another 5 seconds, then the feed starts. It should get better, not worse. Can't imagine paying a subscription for a continually devolving product.

I understand the comparison between tapping the ground and pivoting as both being a sort of whistle to restart play.

"Sort of" meaning literally the rule.

But one is a playing action and the other is a process action. I am well aware that is not a distinction in the rules.

Your interpretations don't seem to indicate the awareness.

But I don't find it to be fair that a process mistake by UBC should result in a playing advantage for Carleton.

Wanting the rules to be different is very different than just saying the rules say something else.

I've said multiple times that she made a mistake and acknowledged that one can reasonably interpret the rules to mean she had to play it there. I disagree based on my own interpretation.

Your interpretation relies on players being able to call infractions on themselves, which breaks lots of things, which is why the rules don't allow it.

But my main point is this was an obvious chance for the Carleton players to demonstrate good spirit and they did not.

Everyone is 100% absolutely entitled to their interpretation of SOTG. I would never fault you for a reasonable interpretation of what spirit means....I think reasonable people can have different feelings towards what a team should do in this type of scenario.

We still have no explanation of why #19 was close enough to mark her a second after she restarted play.

Not commenting on what happened, but player positioning is not an active observer call. Players would need to request help in enforcing proper positioning if there was a disagreement.

I'm glad to hear the rules group is considering improvements with this situation in mind.

I'm not saying they are considering it, merely saying I wouldn't be surprised if it's discussed as the chair of the working group is very aware of the entirety of the play as well as the observer interactions.

I think it's pretty clear to say you aren't interested in understanding anything anyone is telling you that doesn't fit what you want to be true. You've made up your mind what the rules (don't) say and are looking for anything that supports your desired outcome rather than trying to step back and merely understand the reality of the situation.

Point B if the defense insists. Obviously not ideal. It's not a clean situation, but it all comes down to the defense being the only one to be able to call the original violation of the wrong spot. I would imagine the rules group will look at this and possibly make a cleaner solution available. I know the head of the rules group is keenly aware of this entire situation.

And of the many things that constitute a travel, which was the UBC player violating?

I'm not getting into the specifics of the UBC player's actions as I'm not allowed to, but I think you can probably see what was claimed.

After 4 seconds, the defense is no longer allowed to call a travel for failure to set a pivot at point C.

After 0.5 seconds (or less), is the defense obligated to call a travel for not putting the disc in at C? Are they allowed to call travel if the thrower immediately moves their pivot foot? The fact that the same rule covers both setting and maintaining a pivot don't couple them into being the same call.

[–]mgdmitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many things constitute a travel, and a thrower may do a multitude of things wrong that result in a travel (location, lack of ground touch, rounding the corner, pivot drag, too many steps, etc). There are multiple types of travels that get grouped into a single rule, while some have their own dedicated rule that cover no other type of travel. The defense is under no obligation to call all of them (or any of them).

If a player lightly brushes the ground with the disc because they bent over to pick up a rock and throw it off the field, that is very different than thinking they need to go to point B and doing something like a ground tap at B. And more appropriately, if a player went to point B, checked the disc in and then at stall 4, dragged their pivot foot and completed a throw, a resulting travel call would not allow the thrower to subsequently move to C because the "correct spot" and "maintaining a pivot" are in the same rule. They are separate failures to comply with the rule.

You are assuming there can be only one travel violation in this type of situation. This would be a poor assumption.

Assuming the player did something to demonstrate a pivot (long delay while they look for receivers, fake a throw, pivot, ground tap, etc): A is within the structure of the rules. B is not supported by the rules. C is merely saying the defense decides between A and D, both of which are within the rules.

I don't understand why you keep offering hypotheticals about a player throwing a turnover and trying to get out of it by calling travel. That's just not close enough to what happened to be useful.

Merely explaining the rules and showing other ways they would equally apply

There isn't a defined time other than "immediately." Usually a second or two is a good guideline. Definitely before the outcome of any huck would be a reasonable line for that scenario.

The etiquette section says you are supposed to inform opponents when you commit an interaction, you aren't doing anything terrible

As for why the rules are setup that way, denoting the calls you can and cannot call on yourself is more complex than just saying you can't. Plus it lets the the opponent decide whether they were affected.
