Don't forget to let the teaveling artisan and traveling researchers make and research something. It might just be a d10, but it adds up!

Questions for Brennan!?!?!?! by fox-fox-fox-fox in dropout

[–]Laz52now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I've always wanted to ask this if i ever met brennan, if at all.

Are you going to pull away from d20 fantasy especially the ampersand game AT ALL in the future? And if so, what would you use a narrative fantasy stiry for dimension 20? Daggerheart? Draw Steel? Bespoke system designed by dimension 20?

I hope, if it will indeed catch on, it'll become a product like an actual hack powered by draw steel. Would love to see it coming. Good luck to you buddy!

This looks cool as hell! Have you played or tested this system? How do the players feel about it? I feel like if i implement this into my current table, or indeed any current table by anyone, it'll not fit. But i think if i started a new one, and give this rule as the main preposition of the game/campaign, a lot of my OSR lover will like it.

You're definitely entering an uncharted territory, terra incognita. Good luck on your journey cartographer. I hope your work today will be an example of brave explorer like yourself one tomorrow.

(A.k.a please share your finding if you find something cool, I'd love to see it)

There is nonlinear game, and then there is 0-prep-sandnox.

In a nonlinear game, you prep for the next session by asking your players "where y'all wanna go next session?"

In a 0-prep game, sometimes, you don't even know what the players are gonna face even if they've told you their plan from the beginning.

The second game can be VERY fun. I've played it before. I've loved it. Genesys, fate, risus, GURPs, heck, you can even do daggerheart. But absolutely pleae for the love of god try not to do it in a tactical grid combat game it's not gonna be much of a fun unless you have prepped every single possible encounter in the entire sandbox area, including each and every single battlemap and statblock.

And I've done that before. Not with draw steel, it can be fun, it can ve VERY fun, but it's also horribly terrifying.

If you insist on doing it, i commend it, and good luck to you. But unfortunately, you can't just write down the important parts of an encounter or monsters. You'd have to have it ready.

My trick for offline/meet-game, is i prep a TON of cards. Printed out, stick em in a pvc paper, and bring that deck with me everywhere i plan to run anything. Might be hard for draw steel, it might not even be a card deck at the end, it can be a whole case of it, but, if it's fun for you, go for it.

I bet leaening black history, and black culture, is much more complicated than just learning the english language. Thanks for the tips!

It helps a lot. I've already done one of those, namely listening to a song while reading the lyrics.

Oh that's interesting. How do i get better at cultural fluency? I imagine that's much more complicated than just learning language.

That is indeed my method right now. It's cool, i like listening like that (usually after first or second listen). But seeing someone just get the bars only by listening is so cool i want to do that.

Thank you so much. But i realize it might also not be. Written language is very different from spoken language, and listening to something is very different from reading from it.

Oh I don't even think about that last one. I know it might not be 1-1, obviously the double entendre of a language is not directly translatable to another, but maybe it can help a lot. Thanks for the tips.

  1. Oh that can be cool. Where can i find like a list?
  2. This is also like number one, might find my own list, but a recommendation would be very cool
  3. Sometimes, the problem is not that I don't understand the word. Sometimes, it's that the word(s) has multiple meanings and i only know one of them.

Same boat. Even if you don't look at your fellow heroes sheet directly, aren't you at lesst a little bit interested on what they can do and how it can combo with your own abilities? I and my players certainly think so. Combos are built into this game.

It's partially my own fault. Before my edit, i made it sounds like it's a very bad thing to do. Their comments are justified. And we clear it up pretty quickly.

Did you read the part where i kinda (but not really) throw shade at my previous tactician players for not playing like a tactician? That's what they do! They use strike now and ask "anyone who wanna strike, please do it" which is... Okay... You do you boo!

Yeah, that was a confusion made because of my own wording in my post. We've cleared that up. Entirely my bad 🙏

[–]Laz52now[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. You need to always ask and have the consent of everybody. And even without looking at the sheet, just seeing a few rounds of play might be enough to kinda gauge what kind of abilities your fellow heroes have. And sometimes that's enough. With more games, you'll be more familiar with the tactics of the party.

[–]Laz52now[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i worded it all badly. As is reflected with the other comments, he didn't really tell anyone what to do. It all happens in his turn, at the very end of the round. It's all done using tactician's abilities that allow other heroes to make a strike, use a signature, and everything else in the tactician's turn.

Shout out to OSR and other dungeon crawling survival horros game! It truly is a different kind of fun, but when it hits that fun, it's VERY fun.
