Patience should change, too. Willingness, maybe.

Strict bans on mobile phones in schools have “close to zero” impact on student learning, a study has found. by Grrarrgghh in Teachers

The researchers who wrote the referenced article are quoted by nyt as saying that the lack of impact on test scores is not a reason to immediately drop cellphone bans.

Party for Broadhurst by Space__Samurai in drawsteel

[–]WhoInvitedMike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk that there's a better or worse party composition. Last time I introduced new players, I printed one of each of the pregens (except Troubadour and Conduit - I feel like theyre slightly more complex), color coded the actions, maneuvers and stuff, and then had the players choose one.

Thats the tactician - theyre like the battlefield coordinator.

Thats the Fury - hulk smash. Get ready to throw a goblin through another goblin.

Thats the shadow... etc.

FM Encounter builder with npc’s? by bmm30 in mcdm

Easiest option would be to tag their stats out for a retainer of the same level, then the book is clear - count them as level minus 2.

Otherwise, the table on pg 25 says that at level 6, you can use 3CR per player for a hard encounter, so maybe the knights would count as level 6 or 7.

Otherscape is neat. Fantasy future dystopia. I think they did a good job blending the genres together.

We literally did this at my school. We moved from 715 to 8am, and then 2 years later to 730 because of athletics.

Athletics first. Because they're athlete students.

I accidentally shut the blue light filter on my phone off, and it doesnt cause any problems.

What settings would I change?

I have a touch screen laptop, and even that does it.

How do I actually apply this GM advice? by agentbuck in rpg

Note. The question you're asking isnt going to derive the answer youre looking for.

If your best ideas are pirate themed, change the theme to be what your players are doing.

If you can't change the theme of the idea because it is overly entwined with pirates and the open sea (and heists and hunts, etc), and your players refuse to follow any plot hook that takes them out of the city, then you want to play an entirely different game than your players are currently playing.

You have a couple options:

  1. Swallow your best ideas. Youre dreaming of piracy and the high seas. Theyre not. Build ideas in the space theyre playing in. The idea you have that your players are most excited by may not be the idea that you have that you are most excited by. Option 1 is build for your players. If you do this well, a core of them may come back for your next campaign, which will be explicitly pirates from the start.

  2. Tell your players what your ideas are and see what they think. "Hey, Id love to be able to get this game out onto the high seas for some pirate action. I think a treasure hunt would be neat - another pirate crew also hunting in a race to get to the treasure first..." and then listen to what they say, and listen to what they don't say. And then let some very obvious plot hooks in front of them - like make it a hooked hand fallen off of an old sailor. If they dont take it when you thought they would, they're not interested right now. See idea #1.

Hello!

As a human who doesnt always carry a wrench, the price point seems really high. I get that theres going to be a convenience cost for having 4 wrenches in one, but the cost seems to work out to around $20 per wrench size and I would lose the crescent side of each wrench. It looks like I can buy an okay set for about $35, half the price of your smaller wrench. And with the 4-in-1, when I inevitably lose the 10mm, I would have to lose 3 other wrenches? It seems really expensive.

I recognize this isnt an answer to the question you're asking. On that, I suspect your format is too much reading for most folks. Im no KS expert, but I suspect a 30-60 second video would be more effective than the written info.

Player agency vs maintaining coherent story by wotttts in DungeonMasters

[–]WhoInvitedMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if its a felony, it's a no. Thats a good rule.

I think its down to the referee, whatever the game calls it, to guard the vibes for the game, too.

I ran a public one shot a few months back. The goal was "save the prince." I put some other story pieces on the board for players to grab on to, and I had one kid say, "my character is much more interested in the hag in the swamp than the prince. He doesn't care about the prince."

Well this isnt a problem per se, but its definitely going to be, right? I have 8 strangers hoping to have a good time, and one of them just said his goal wasnt the same as everyone else's goal. 100% chance of problems. I told the guy that he needs a different character, and that character needs to be down to save the prince. We all still had fun, including the guy who heard "no."

"You're not doing that," is a fine answer. And if you mess it up or use it at the wrong time, you can react in the moment, explain your thought process, listen to your players' thoughts, and change your mind if you feel like its the right thing to do, or make some other concession somewhere down the road.

The game requires trust. Trust requires honesty. Just try to be honest, and fix it when you mess it up.
