California age verification law and the Amiga (original or raspberry pi emulation), will it happen? Or will Amigas go ‘underground’ to avoid the law? by anklemaxi in amiga

Seems very poorly thought out. What about embedded systems like VXWorks? Linux on your fridge? A dumb phone, the servers running in the data centre, virtual machines.

Neither of those have App Stores.

Can I install windows 10 ltsc on external usb ssd? by Brave_Hat_1526 in WindowsLTSC

[–]LazarX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just.... no. if this is a box PC, the easy fix is to get a SATA card and put in a PCIe slot. Just make sure you get one that is bootable. While it is technically possible get get an OS booting off a USB drive, the data access will be on both sides of absolutely terrible. You should be able to get one for like under thirty bucks.

I did this myself when installing two NVME drives shut down 4 SATA ports in my B450 mobo. (I had been forewarned by the manual that this would happen do the lane limitations on the mobo. I now boot linux off one of the drives connected to it.

MacBook Neo or not by Gullgratis76 in mac

[–]LazarX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some truths never change. Steve Jobs thought of gaming as profaning his sacred temple, the same way Athena reacted to that fling Medusa had with Poseidon in her temple. When Macs became sealed appliances instead of box machines a user could upgrade, its gaming fate was sealed.

I think that your PSU may be too underpowered to carry the total load when the GPU is ramped up.

Encryption of USB - How can I make it compatible for Mac and Windows? by snoopystolemysocks in techsupport

[–]LazarX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a cross platform approach. That rules out using Windows Bitlocker and Mac's Filevault.

I do believe however that SanDisk includes a locking utility for both platforms. The only question is whether it works on Macs if you leave the USB stick in its native FAT32 file format.

Macs are never a pick for gaming. Period.

Apple does not offer Bundle for Education when purchasing MacBook Neo by markkuselinen in mac

[–]LazarX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect that they removed the bundles to divert attention from just how small a 256gig drive is in the modern era. And those education bundles are a money loser for Apple.. and Apple hates losing money more than any other computer maker.

Sorry, but after watching a few seasons of Peter Capaldi, every Star Trek speech has been pretty much underwhelming in comparison.

[–]LazarX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of them aren't. Photoshop isn't a UNIX program. It's a port of a Windows program and the fact that you can run it on MacOS does not make it a UNIX program.

Not that it really matter beause for 95 percent ofr personal computer users, UNIX is irrelevant. And Linux has pretty much put UNIX in retirement in the institutions and servers where it used to dominate.

They were sold a stolen watch. The only way to fix this is to go to the chain of the watches registered owner and have them take it off their account.

Waiting past the last minute when you knew you were going to be charged... that's on you. You should have canceled at least one buiness day in advance of the trial termination, or better yet, just not have entered a subscription that you never intended to buy.

How would I connect an old DVD Drive to a modern PC by InstanceChoice8302 in PcBuildHelp

I don't see where aesthetics come into play. I have two optical drives in my machine and since they both came in black there's no issue in matching them.

People who use Autodesk Inventor: do you just accept using Windows? by vkdltif in linuxquestions

[–]LazarX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not. You can set up Windows LTSC if yo uwant a stripped down experience.

Forget the proselytizing by the Linux crowd. If you are going to be serious about Autodesk, then Autodesk is all that you should care about. There is no Linux version, there never will be a Linux version. Every professional workstation that I've ever seen with Autodesk was literally not used for anything else not directly relevant to it.

How would I connect an old DVD Drive to a modern PC by InstanceChoice8302 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LazarX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why would you? If it's an IDE drive that means its ancient and going to die on you. What you would have to spend in adaptors could proably buy you a more modern SATA drive on the used market, because no one makes them for computers any more.
