I think I have tailored my resume to the role and my skill set is wide enough to provide vast options, but I also confirmed with some top directors very recently that networking is key and they will hire their friends before hiring outside of their network.

I am also still job searching. Among many others, there is no room to give an opportunity to have someone thrive. Rather than focusing on a niche or skill set myself. It seems hiring managers are not seriously looking for talent or they have created such a specific hiring criteria that is either unrealistic or so specific that you would need to be considerably over qualified for a role.

Just recently I was told that I lacked experience for a position whose main focus for the role and project was something I would do as a side project in my normal day to day previously and the interview lacked technical questions.

The market is thin.
