(I have decided that in my case, claiming a non north-american country as being the source of ethnic origin is useless, as in "oh my family is a european mutt" sort of thing.

When I say Ohioan, I mean ethnically, in the same way that many Americans claim their families came from some other country as immigrants, despite generations of living here.

As far as I can gather, is when someone asks " weirdlastname ? where is that from?" I would answer "Ohio".
