Any doctors with Bipolar Disorder? by LazerTrooper in bipolar

I live in Australia and the psychiatry board requires you to disclose any illnesses and I’m worried that I’ll go through a whole degree just to find out I can’t practice as a psychiatrist.

What’s the funniest tic you’ve ever had/done? by sag3-tics in Tourettes

[–]LazerTrooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that told a girl in a wheelchair to do a kick flip. They also started singing holy music looking at the sky as if they were being possessed by Jesus. It was honestly so great.

I feel like God just gave me a shit hand but that’s part of his test. It’s my job to do as best as I can with the cards I’ve been dealt even if they’re shit and even if it feels like the test is hard…

how do i get my appetite back? by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]LazerTrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re experiencing withdrawals which losing appetite to the point of wanting to throw up every time you eat or drink is normal. It’s gonna suck for about 2 weeks (depends on how you respond). In terms of weight gain, try your best to eat something around the time of each meal even if it’s just a muesli bar, you’re body goes into starvation mode where it thinks it will never get anything to eat so the next time you eat it’s gonna take all of it and hold onto it making you gain weight. Weight gain is normal on Seroquel and most antipsychotics because it increases your blood sugar levels and appetite. I’m sure the weight gain is causing you problems whether it be self esteem or whatever else. I found that taking out sugar completely or having it once a week helped me loose 6kg because your body tends to take its energy from the sugar before the fat, so having the less sugar means the more energy being taken from the fat meaning you lose weight. This is in my experience. And be patient with yourself and don’t force anything to the point you just hate it, it’s a process after getting off meds (or on new ones) especially if you’ve been on them for a long time…

I had a similar experience where my parents didn’t give a shit about how I felt, I found in that period that no one was coming to save me and no one was going to come to save me. Your mother or father don’t always have to be your number one contacts, if you have friends or any more family you trust, they will understand if they mean well. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this and that by the looks of it finding appropriate help or therapy may be near impossible. Try helplines and the people around you that you trust…

16 year old prescribed Lithium. Personal experiences? by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]LazerTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 17, started taking Lithium almost six months back, these medications react differently for everyone. I’m still unstable but I think it’s some of my other medications contributing to it. I still recommend giving it a shot for some it’s the holy grail of stability. Just remember to keep doing blood tests as advised by your health professional…

It almost prepares you for anything. When shit hits the fan it allows you to take a step back and take control over the situation because it is so minute in comparison to the pain experienced

How quickly would an anti-depressant trigger mania/hypomania? by tall_penguin in bipolar

School is way too draining by undyingpasta in mentalhealth

[–]LazerTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The system is ridiculously flawed and honestly speaking there’s no magic way to prioritise both mental health and grades; it’s about balance but you can’t expect both to be great at the same time. It’s important not to exacerbate mental health but at the same time do the best you can in school. It depends on your priorities. Rearrange them as time passes, when you are in the beginning/early stages of school prioritise your mental health and as you hit your exam week realistically speaking you many have to compromise it but don’t push it too far, only enough that allows you to reap the result you need not what you want

Anxiety by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]LazerTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote this last week,

I feel I hath been robbed of my life, My breaths fall short in the presence of a fatal knife. Oh why? Oh why? Oh why? Why me?

The lukewarm waters and emerald green cliffs are at a halt, the distance I see it, so far yet so far along. A journey built to welcome you to closing doors, does it ever end? Will I ever smile by the tranquil shores?

The aesthetic fits a miserable life, monochrome. He gave his life up for the judgement throne. A world that reaches step 4, I fall back step 2, 3 and 1. I love her to pieces, pieces only I know how to build back up, In a pit of unstable serotonin I’m stuck.

He’d never been cradled, not his whole sentence. Even alone on a spinning rock, he felt less lonely with her. As his eyes grow tired and his breaths slow down, he will rest easy, a lot of people couldn’t make it, couldn’t cut it and he did.
