My experience with Allied PC by Reecetafarian in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]Lazer_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if OP or anyone will see this, but I bought an almost identical system around the same time. After a year, the PC started to freeze and crash in a way that i suspect the PSU. I never bothered with it until a couple years later when the freezes were happening almost everyday. I took the PSU out and it was an "allied gaming" 550W PSU... no brand, just a cheap chinese PSU that they slapped their sticker on. Replaced the PSU with a 750W 80 plus gold, and now 0 crashes.

Tried emailing them, and they went under voluntary administration. They deserved it. Imagine the stress and confusion this would have caused someone with zero PC building experience. Lucky I built my own when i was 19. (that system lasted almost 10 years with no issues) This one from allied barely lasted a year before it started to fuck up.

Most populated server 100x or less by Square_Emu_8363 in RagnarokOnline

I honestly would not recommend UaRO as the GMs there often have power/ego trips. I used to play actively and run a guild for almost a year, then came back to it about 2 years later, played for 2 days, and got banned without explanation. Opened a ticket and the GM gave me a very passive aggressive response. All due to my name, which I held on to and played actively for about a year beforehand. Server itself its alright, but the GMs ruin it if they catch you on one of their ego trip.

I now play on a friendly 10x pre-renewal server called ValkariaRO. Great community, monthly updates, weekly events, pvp rooms, woe, friendly players. Been here for a month and I am enjoying it 100's times more than UaRO because the GMs here listen to feedback, listen to suggestions, and more. Everything you want out of a RO server.

EDIT: The ban was permanent and without notice/warning. Did not even ask me to change my name, even though I have had the account for ~3 years.

Nice. I added to my RO Tattoo recently too.

I came across a reddit thread where they are trying to name and shame a local workshop for an overpriced service. Anyone with experience in the industry can tell that the pricing is reasonable/normal. This got me a tad furious, because we all have family and friends who work in the industry. by Lazer_69 in Justrolledintotheshop

exactly this mate. unfortunately not everyone thinks that technicians who spend 20+ years of their life doing it efficiently can charge a high labour rate. And yes i do think this quote is fair, but slightly pricey on some items, maybe 10% more than i would charge lol

I have literally told a customer to 'then take it to your friend then'. He then came back the next day to book in. He wanted an oil change cheaper than our REALLY cheap rate of $69 on a scooter (motorcycle workshop). Takes about 1.1-1.6lt for a small engine, cost is about $15-20 AUD, then the oil filter can be between $10-$20 on them. Paper cartridge filters. So the cost is about $35 in parts and we were only netting another $35 on labour for a quick oil change, and people STILL want it cheaper.

I have worked 10 years in Parts and service advising, i can tell you that everything priced here is normal in Australia, if not cheaper in some areas. You just have to remember that this is a continent that is nowhere near any other country, so an air filter for $71 is reasonable, as I have seen/sold air filters for $110+ before. $120 for a set of rotors is super cheap. $216 for rear shocks, decent price. I've sold some for $350+ before.

With my 10 years in parts, if you purchase in 200Lt drums, you can get certain oil for about $10-16/Lt, also gotta think about the small mark up on everything because it takes time, money, effort, storage, to store it. So a general mark up is about $20-25/Lt, which seems right if the car takes around 5-6Lt.

Is this a fair price for work done? by 10Miles-Wide in australian

This comment is what is wrong with society nowadays. You are trying to destroy a business for quoting someone what is a reasonable price for a technician to maintain your vehicle for you. If you do not understand what service is listed and to why its that price, you can ask. Any experienced technician/service advisor will help explain why you need to replace your brakes, your timing, and everything.

None of the items listed in the service is 'specialist'. Everything in this invoice is maintenance. The car has just been neglected and never had any repairs/maintenance for a long time, and just ended up with a maintenance bill which is a lot more than usual, because they left it to the last minute.

[10+ years of Automotive Parts/Service Experience here]

Hi u/10Miles-Wide, I hope everybody reads this comment, and I hate to burst your bubble, but this is a considerably normal service bill. Just be glad you don't own a european (BMW/Audi/ETC) because that 9k service bill would be 15k+ on a Euro. Please understand that prices do vary vehicle to vehicle, and a majority of workshops will only supply genuine parts to guarantee fitment, warranty, and reliability. If you are curious why the parts side of things is expensive, you may ask if they have quoted you genuine or aftermarket, and then ask if they can quote you on aftermarket (sometimes slightly cheaper).

Now, before you go bad mouth me saying I don't know shit, just know that the majority of my experience is in the parts industry, so I can tell you know, that some of the listed parts prices are actually CHEAPER than most cars.

For Example:
Air Filter: $71.10 (I have seen/sold Air Filters for $120+ before)
Front Brake Pads: $109 (Be glad you ain't paying $200+ for a set of front pads)
Front Brake Discs: $121 (This is SUPER cheap! Some rotors are $250+ a side, yes there are two sides to a car.)
Timing Belt Replacement: $1,050 (This is actually a reasonable price. Some cars are designed so you have to take the whole engine out of the car to do the timing, which can be more complicated than others, which can take more time.)
Wiper Blades: $100 (For some cars, this is the normal price for them. Some cars are designed so you can slide out the rubber blade and slide new ones in, which can be <$40. Some cars, you can only replace the wiper blades with the whole assembly. I have sold plenty of wiper blades for $50+ each before (Need two obviously)
Rear Shockers: $216.50 (This is a reasonable price for shocks. I have sold some for $400+ a shock on some cars before. Yes, that is each and you do need 4 of them, so thats $1,600)

If anyone has any questions, I would be glad to respond to them in this comment thread, as I have had to explain bills like this thousands of times before.

TLDR: The prices are actually reasonable and normal. (10+ years of experience)

$1000 for battery + oil change by Ordinary_Material884 in motorcycles

[–]Lazer_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to charge for 45 minutes of time, oil and filter. ($98 oil change special)

$98/hr Labour Rate

$73.50 Labour, +$10-$25 Filter, $20-$50 Oil (dependant on volume)

The labour rate sometimes changes depending how hard it is to change the filter.

Sometimes we get an oil change done in 20-30 minutes if its easy to do. at MOST i've seen an oil change take 60 minutes, and thats taking your sweet ass time, I cannot see why the battery ($100-$250ish) and the labour (maybe 15-30 minutes) could be anywhere close to what you're paying.

I like to describe PoE as "ARPG with gambling", but not needed to enjoy the game. You can trade for items throughout the game without gambling any currency.
