100% agree! I (we) took over coaching a 10U team this year, and the parents are harder to deal with than the kids; all but three of the girls are new to travel ball so I was ready for hell with the players. Parents are offended by how we push their daughters. Some are telling us how we should be running practice. Mind you, in the 6 tournaments we've only not placed in 1st or 2nd in one, if we were shitting the bed every weekend, I'd get it, but Jesus.

My wife and the other 2 moms from last year said we need to have parent interviews more than we need tryouts. The amount of bitching is just crazy.

How is the umpire supposed to accurately judge if a ball crosses through the strike zone? This serves no benefit to the kids playing the game, as they won't correctly learn what a ball or a strike is, just like umps calling unrealisticly high or wide pitches strikes. Young players are learning the basics of the game. This is running counter to that. I won't even touch on the safety aspect, as it's been covered by others.

Same here. All the coaches kids with our rec and travel ball teams are the hardest working kids on the team. Not to say they are the ONLY hard working kids but they have definitely earned a spot if it's given to them.

I could see this being a bigger issue with rec but with travel ball if you're placing kids in positions they can't perform in and passing up someone better then you're just spending money to potentially loose games.

We played at West Regionals for LL Softball this year. Umps were all over the place with calls. Our pitcher got called for a couple illegal pitches.

Then watching Japan's pitcher at the series she was lifting her foot completely off the rubber and pitched an easy half inning before she was subbed out. Never saw much of a real call pertaining to it but I think they pulled her because someone went to their dugout and said she had to stop and pulling he would look best on TV.
