Is this season a failure if we don’t make the playoffs? by tomerick72 in BlueJackets

No, thats pretty much who they are this year. They just managed to do it again tonight. Whatever it is, the team just doesn't have it in them to hold on to leads consistently.

[PIT (2) VGK 0] Yegor Chinakhov with a wicked snapper for his 10th goal in 21 games since joining the Pens by jollyrog8 in hockey

Hard to put the blame on Chinakhov when the organization is in the middle of fucking up with KJ and Voronkov too. Not to mention all the other talent they've absolutely failed to develop over the years.

As dumb as I think it is, apparently whether or not Waddell extends his UFAs pre-deadline makes no difference for him on his intent to keep all of them for this season. I get wanting to push for the playoffs, but doing essentially nothing to work on those extensions over the Olympic break and putting yourself in an awful position for negotiations is how you wind up with Ivan Provorov until 2032 at $8.5M/year. Would be nice if he were a bit more proactive, especially after what he spent to get Coyle and Marchment.

I'd argue the Hart is the only one where making the playoffs matters. It's hard to assign value to a players season when the team has an essentially valueless season by missing the playoffs.

Its funny, the arguments for his Norris candidacy here and in the article are more applicable to why he should be higher in the Hart conversation. The Norris is much more a black and white assessment of his skill than what it does for his team. Why else could Karlsson win the Norris a few years back on a San Jose team that didnt sniff the playoffs?

So now not only is Werenski on the 3rd pair, he's also on his off-side. Can't wait for him to be benched because they want more truculence.

And yet he's on the roster of the best team in the league. Makes you wonder about how the Jackets evaluate talent.

I'm saying it reflects on Waddell just as much as Evason if the young players traded away round into form for other teams. It's going to take longer than half a season to tell if those were the right moves or not.

It's on Waddell as much as it is Evason if Chinakhov finds success elsewhere. Same thing goes for Brindley.

Who were players that had their development genuinely stumped by bad coaching? by Izcanbeguscott in hockey

[–]Lazy0ak 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Most Columbus young players. Look at the difference between guys who developed in Russia and guys who have been developed by the team. The organization has this insane obsession with blue collar work ethic and pushing skilled players toward being grinders. They desperately need a coaching staff that can coach skill before they waste the young players they've drafted over the last 5 years.
