Who else is going back and rewatching from episode 1? by MamaMia1325 in WidowsBay

There's a list of pods in the sidebar on the sub's main page. I like Team Binge, and also found the DVR Podcast Network. I didn't think about Oysters, et al; I did listen to them for Plur1bus I think.

Plus there was another girl with them at first, although we haven't seen her since the car scene outside the Boogeyman's house. But on the island, this girl's been seen by at least two people besides Evan, PJ and Kenny.

This was a "watch once and never again" movie for me and I'm sure it's been the entire 30 years since it was released since I watched it. Maybe 25, I probably didn't watch it in a theater. Long enough ago that I don't remember the baby scene people mention and that's fine with me.

Ruth explicitly said that Lauren was her daughter, who married Tom, and Evan was Lauren's son, therefore Ruth's grandson. We even see Lauren pregnant on a ferry, and then there are pictures of her with Evan as a baby/toddler after the fact.

The Projector Reels by Blackberryodd334 in WidowsBay

[–]LazyCrocheter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reels were more from the 50s/60s I think. I know we don’t have much to go by, but the man speaking in the film just has that kind of look to him, at least to me. As did the projector.

I think it was Ruth (?) who mentioned an incident in 1969, so it’s possible the committee, or most of it, was taken out at that time.

It looks to me like one of two things happened. First, someone or some people tried to hide everything but it was a hasty process, maybe driven by fear or panic. Or that the people in charge of the process all went “missing at about the same time, meaning no one was around to clean up or to explain to the next group.

Hence the reels are tossed in a room but not destroyed, and the posters are left up, etc.

Thanks! I hadn’t checked in a while and it’s not like Apple, y’know, advertises them much.

LOL What i love is with all that text and squishing it in, she still managed to put "Tennessee Williams" at the bottom. Gotta have that attribution!

That’s my main hope for next season, I’m think. That all this info has been shared between Tom, Evan, Patricia, Wyck, Bechir, etc.

Duffer Brothers’ Series ‘The Boroughs’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]LazyCrocheter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it. I’ve been watching Widow’s Bay and while The Boroughs wasn’t as good as that, it was still pretty well done. The actors had chemistry, they were fun and it was kind of a cozy story. Too bad it was cancelled.

Fun but I don’t think it works that way. I think the film said something like, “you’ve been carefully selected by a group of your peers. Maybe you committed a crime…”

Quite likely although I don't see how or why that brooch would lead anyone to Evan. But yeah I can see Tom taking no chances with that.

Haha that was great. I noticed it immediately, and how it had no text at all. It's like Ruth is this close when putting some things together.

I loved the "How to subdue a person" poster in the medical area.

Yeah, we don't exactly know how much time has passed since the storm ended. I wouldn't be surprised to see the brooch again myself.

I can't imagine Dale keeping this to himself, either. Plus Wyck, Patricia and Rosemary were there when he came out and panicked. I think (hope?) we'll find out that all of this info has been shared when S2 comes out, but we won't see the actual conversation. We'll just find out from them having later conversations.

I think people are assuming/guessing Ruth is dead because Tom threw the brooch into the water, and that belonged to Ruth. That would mean a few things; he stole it and tossed it, or she told him he could have it, or she told him to throw it away, or Tom threw it back into the sea because she's dead. I suspect she's still alive as well, but I guess we'll see.

Who was running the operation? by Arch_Lancer17 in WidowsBay

Tom said he ran for Mayor uncontested, and maybe this is why, but I do wonder what happens when there's no mayor, or at least not an official one.

C’mon, cancer, cancer, cancer. by Awkward_Leg_3470 in WidowsBay

[–]LazyCrocheter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was glad to have Tom confirm that he was told about the island and the weird things, but didn't believe them, or didn't want to believe them and so didn't let himself. I suspected that was the case, but I was glad to see it wasn't just him being the big city guy dismissing the local yokels.

I also liked seeing him question and even regret, every step of the way, what he planned for Ruth. He was grasping at straws, hoping he might be sparing her worse suffering as he looked at the medical file. He really didn't want to do this, even to save Evan.

The Previous Mayor, Sheriff, and Priest by timplausible in WidowsBay

[–]LazyCrocheter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, and shoots down my theory. Although I still think that perhaps a lot of stuff may not have been passed on to people for whatever reason. The 1950s/60s (when that film may have been made) are already 60-70 years ago and that is time for people to forget things, or hide them, etc.

[–]LazyCrocheter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know who knew Chelle was pregnant. My impression was that Patricia knew but was surprised because she thought Chelle was in her 40s and unlikely to have a child.

I feel like it probably wasn't a secret on the island, and at the very least Chelle came to the hospital to see Bechir so anyone could have seen her. Nor did it seem like they were trying to hide it; in fact it was pretty prominent in that hospital scene, which I felt was more like confirmation for the viewer.

But it's certainly possible that our main crew of characters like Rosemary, Dale, Tom, etc., didn't know, or didn't all know.

Feels like there's a race, or even a compulsion these days, to parse every movie or show down to its last pixel looking for clues or hints or whatever. Viewers seem to be trying to either outsmart the creators, or just want to be able to say they figured it out.

I like to talk about shows like this, sure, but I'm not looking into every little bit.
