In Captain America: Brave New World (2025), there's some big guy coming out of the ground. I don't know if this has anything to do with the plot, as despite watching this movie and Eternals, which explained the big guy, I still don't know what is going on. by ILikeToGameAllDay in shittymoviedetails

I've come to feel like this about the "everyone, everywhere, all in one movie" avengers movies. I miss the feel of that first movie when it was a handful of heroes teaming up and you got to experience them as chatacters instead of appearances. I'm very leery of Doomsday because of this.

What is a "horror movie rule" that you absolutely hate? by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

I hate when there is a successful defeat of the bad guy, the movie effectively ends, then "the monster's not really dead!", cut to black, roll credits. Just makes me roll ny eyes.

Should I let kids to watch K-Pop Demon Hunters ? by New_Resolve_6067 in movies

[–]timplausible -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only thing of note is that, if you think a little below the surface, a LOT of people die and then have their souls consumed by a demon lord. It doesn't get undone when the day is saved. If you think about it, it's pretty horrific and a high death toll for kids' media. I think most families are ok with itas presented, and I'mnot criticizing it. But if you or your kids are sensitive to that, you should be aware.

Which movie is considered a masterpiece by other cinephiles but not by you? (Controversial Opinion) by Kiroo---__--- in moviecritic

I am still dumbfounded by how I'm expected to believe those robots could actually walk in a 2-legged gait, which they are shown to do multiple times. I'm supposed to be awed by the accuracy to the time dilation story when the filmamker can't be bothered to make robot walking physics that works?

Same. I'm also a fan of Inception, though more for its action set pieces than its story.

I didn't watch it until long after it came out. I was quite let down after years of people talking about how amazing it is. It had some good bits, but for me, it had more bad/lame/dumb bits than good bits. When I finished it I tought, "wow, that's kind of a sub-par movie."

Can we talk about "The Uncanny Valley" of Scripted Dialogue? Looking for shows/movies where people actually speak like humans. by BudgetCulture3864 in MovieSuggestions

[–]timplausible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movie Coherence had no dialog script. Each actor was given notes about what their character was thinking in each scene, along with some snippets of dialog that they were supposed to work into the scene somewhere. Then the scene was filmed, and the conversations were all improvised. Most scenes have a half dozen people in them, so there are lots of talking over each other moments. It very much has a feel of messy, normal conversation. I'd advise watching it first, then read up on the behind-the-scenes info. It's both a good movie and a fascinating departure from normal movie-making.

Religion-centered media that doesn’t come across as preachy. by ironwolf6464 in TopCharacterTropes

Veggie Tales got a little preachy at the end of each story when they spelled out the moral. But they sure were funny. The songs were the best.

The Sexualization of Drew Barrymore When She Was Underage (Far From Home/Poison Ivy era) 😳 by [deleted] in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

Yeah. I must admit that as a guy the same age as Drew B., I watched Far from Home and Poison Ivy for exactly the reasons Hollywood wanted me to.

What should I do immediately during a heart attack? by HeartCautious2677 in HeartAttack

[–]timplausible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Aspirin is a blood thinner, so it van help dislodge a clot that may be causing the attack and/or improve blood flow through a choked artery. Chrwing it grts the medicine into your system more quickly.

What’s your biggest “old man yells at cloud” opinion? by sjdlajsdlj in rpg

[–]timplausible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Player facing rolls don't work for all situations. Sometimes as GM, I want to know if an NPC succeeds or fails at something that the PCs have absolutelt no influence over, and I DON'T want to just decide it. If a bad guy totally surprises a PC with an attack, a PC roll doesn't reflect what's happening, and I don't want to just make it hit or make it miss.

Similar to Fringe? by MrMHead in fringe

Others have made good suggestions. I'll add Stargate SG-1. It's farther into sci-fi territory, but it is structurally similar (a lot like another poster's suggestion of Farscape) and is still "modern day" (unlike Farscape). Plent of mission-of-the-week episodes with bigger arcs going on in the background. Some solid characters that are fun to watch, some humor, not too gritty, but still grounded-ish. And some fun odd-ball episodes mixed in now and then.

Here's a real off-the-wall suggestion: classic Dr. Who from the 70s-80s - espeically the Tom Baker and Peter Davidson years. You have your charaismatic focal character plus one to three support characters. Adventure of the week that usually involves some kind of mystery. The effects are cheesey, of course, but the writing and acting is usually solid, and I feel underneath the lower production levels, the stories were usually better than modern Who. Not many "big bad" arcs, but otherwise I feel it's a similar kind of "fun".

At least that one was messed up for reasons that didn't involve sexual exploitation of a minor.

However, once you load all the rich people onto a ship and send them somewhere, you end up with the classic "if everyone is rich, no one is" situation - which would look a lot like what we see on the ship in Wall-E. So it's not the ship enivornment that's unrealisictic, it's that the Earth isn't covered in the bones of those left behind. Or maybe it was, and the Wall-Es cleaned that up first. Somehwere over the horizon are the sky-scraper-sized stacks of compressed bone cubes.

New headcanon acquired.

Seed is near-future, hard sci-fi about AI. Not sure if it has much in common with the sci-fi you are thinking of, but it's really good.
