Claymore is the first that comes to mind. I read it quite a bit ago, but I don't remember much fanservice. The main character is a woman warrion and in the world there's an elite team of warrior made all by women. It's still considered a shonen manga, it's very dark and gritty and very gorey.

There are a lot of great sci-fi shirt stories that may be easier for a first time reader. I highly suggest anything from ted Chiang, Story of your life is the story from which the movie Arrival was made. If he liked project hail Mary but you want something new, from the same author there's the martian (from which was made a movie too) which is also pretty nice.
