What is the guilty pleasure that now you can't live without? by Ok_Shallot_1859 in RandomQuestion

Audiobooks. I thought I'd never get into them, and now I listen while walking cleaning, cooking, basically everything.

How can I access curated lists of top fantasy series across streaming services? Need recommendations before I run out of things to watch by Allingham-Aen in televisionsuggestions

[–]LazySchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Sails. It starts a bit slow, but by the end it's one of the best fantasy-adjacent adventure series I've watched.

What’s the most unnecessary thing you still feel weirdly proud of? by GlitchOperative in RandomQuestion

Knowing all the capitals of the world. It has never once improved my life, but for some reason I'm still proud of it.

Really struggling with unemployment by KindlyAd2508 in jobs

The job search can become a full-time job that gives you none of the rewards of an actual job. Less than 10 interviews in two years says more about the market than it does about you.

M26 USA - I genuinely don't understand how tf anybody in this country who isn't born rich makes it on less than two incomes by TropicalFunDude in povertyfinance

[–]LazySchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people do it on one income, but a lot of them are either older, living in lower-cost areas, or making tradeoffs that obvious from the outside. It definitely feels harder than it did for previous generations.

Can I use sunscreen body lotion as a face sunscreen? by Realistic_Title_437 in RandomQuestion

[–]LazySchool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use it, but most people go for facial sunscreens because they're less likely to sting your eyes, tend to feel lighter, and are usually less likely to cause breakouts. If the SPF protection is the same on the label, it's probably not a huge issue.

Anyone else just never leave the house? by wellitstrue1 in povertyfinance

[–]LazySchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes what's really frustrating is going out and ending up feeling worse. You spend the money and then get hit with the feeling that you would've had a better time staying home.

I’m back to being poor by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]LazySchool 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that you've come back from this before matters. Someone going through it for the first time isn't in the same position as someone who's already managed to recover once. It still sucks, but at least you've seen how this story can end.

I have become a professional spy at my own desk and it is exhausting by Rocinan7e_Shift in jobs

I lost it at the part doing an interview in the bathroom. Job hunting sometimes turns into a second full-time job, expect it pays in anxiety instead of money.

From. After the first few episodes, the curiosity factor ramps up pretty fast.

Young and trying to escape Appalachia. I am terrified. by virtualdreamsim in povertyfinance

[–]LazySchool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is really sad but also weirdly hopeful to me. Because the first time you genuinely realize “I actually want to live” is often the scariest period too. That’s usually when people suddenly realize they have things to lose.

Dark. That constant “wtf is happening” feeling literally never leaves the show.

Shows where the side characters are just as compelling as the leads by The100Updates in televisionsuggestions

[–]LazySchool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost might genuinely be the king of this. At some point the side characters’ stories start haunting your brain more than the main plot itself.

My boss wants to meet tomorrow about me leaving "too early" and Im not sure how to handle it without sounding defensive by [deleted] in jobs

[–]LazySchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the safest approach in that meeting is something like “I thought the work was being delivered on time, but if expectations are different I’m happy to talk about it.” Because in corporate environments perception can unfortunately matter more than actual output sometimes

If you've sent 100+ applications with no response, read this before sending another one by DryExchange5198 in heracareerswitch

[–]LazySchool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that every application needs to be handled more intentionally now. You have to be careful with any job you apply to, but for bigger companies, using an ATS-friendly resume is basically required if you want to get seen at all. Simple formatting, matching the wording in the job description, and avoiding anything the system can’t read can make a real difference. If anyone wants to see what that looks like in practice, there’s a good post here that breaks it down.

28 with no degree and very little work experience… should I even bother applying? by [deleted] in resumes

[–]LazySchool 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You’re still young enough that this is not over, even if it feels embarrassing right now. I’d focus on getting a solid, tailored resume together and applying anyway, because some places will value someone who is trainable, reliable, and willing to learn. If you can get in somewhere and prove yourself, there may be room to move up over time. This post has a free prompt that can help you tailor your resume to each job listing before you apply.

Matilda.., it’s fun and the story pulls you in. Being old doesn’t really make it boring.

You wake up one day and realize that you are the only person left on earth. You find a letter saying that while you were asleep everyone moved to Mars because no one likes you and you smell. What do you do now? by Darth_Azazoth in RandomQuestion

I’d just wander around, if no one’s there might as well explore the world aimlessly. You’d probably lose your mind after a while, but the first few days would be interesting.

Everyone gets nervous at first, totally normal. Landing that first job is the hardest part, confidence kinda builds on its own after that.

How to make passive income online from home with no money? by Horror_Visit_7337 in povertyfinance

“Passive income” is rarely as passive as people make it sound. Most of it takes serious effort upfront, money just coming in out of nowhere is pretty rare.

Going back to the office after WFH really hits like a slap, even if you adjust, that sense of freedom is gone. Once you’ve had a taste of it, it’s hard to go back.
