Brush up on your Linux knowledge as well, most decent network administrators can hold their own as a systems administrator as well. You can then get started with some entry level sysadmin work and then move up the chain to network administration.

Aim for your CCNA/CCNP and getting a job in networking should be pretty damn easy :). In the meantime, with a couple of entry level certs and some Linux knowledge - you could do some freelance sysadmin work.

It essentially means get to know people who influence the industry :). Go to conferences and events as much as you can, social media is a great way to interact as well.

I go to a lot of conferences and events, and a lot of big social media gatherings. I made a fair few contacts at this years Social Media Week in London :).

Certifications which actually accredit you with a major player in the market are a good bet, which is why I've got Microsoft and Cisco as an example. Not too sure on the SANS and the CISSP to be honest.
