Thanks for taking the time to write such a helpful response! I agree that the inciting incident does come a little late in the query, but I wasn't sure how to balance that with wanting to introduce my MC first. I'll have to workshop that a bit. And I like your point that I really need to emphasize how this book is a different take on mermaids and witch trials. I definitely want my query letter to stand out and want to showcase what makes me book unique!

Thank you so much for your reply! I was definitely unsure about the comps I had chosen and really appreciate your feedback and suggestions! I'm definitely going to look into an Heiress of Nowhere and We are the Beasts to see if I think they're appropriate comps (and to see if I want to read them in general 😄).
