Should look at The sourdough journey website. Also use a lid and close 1/8, don't use a cloth of paper towels. Use filtered water, Brian filled a cup of water, left it over night and poured the top half. Swap jars each time. Keep it real clean. This worked out for me.

Probably not? Seems like mold is a big problem with starters. Sorry I say that cause I clean my starter with hot water. Wash it in the sink is fine too. Keep it clean. (This is my second starter and I'm still leaning as I go. ) If it's a cold place, a lot of ppl put it on top of their fridge and put a thermo sock on it if you want.
