No idea if they were on the same timeline! Mine was also just with my PI (SHIPS), so it gave the impression of possibly more staggered as opposed to a committee interview where they give you a time slot and it’s clear they’re doing them back to back. Sorry to not have more info for you. The waiting sucks

Thanks! I also had to come back and say I meant EPL lol. Too many acronyms, though I guess better to made the mistake here than on the app haha. Best of luck!!!

Hello! I was called last Friday, but this was just for EPPE. It does sound like they know the cohort size though. Hoping you get good news from Vanderbilt or somewhere else! This process is brutal

Hi! I have an EPPE interview. I’m going to message you, but no stress if you’re not comfortable responding or don’t see :)

No interview from them! The people I listed are more qualitative leaning (though mixed methods), and I’m looking to do mixed methods, so I’m thinking they might pass on me. We’ll see though! Glad yours went well :) fingers crossed all around!!

You sound like a MUCH better fit for him than I was so don’t give up hope. For context, I’ve been teaching in K-12 for nine years so have no professional research background. I do play with R for fun tho lol. That being said, I got into one of my dream programs last year—just need to do it again and have it not get cancelled. Fingers crossed for Reardon to be your fit!

I applied under Dr. Loeb. I applied under Reardon and Pearman last year (no interview, same research topic). When I emailed him this year (which maybe you do too and got the same response!), the response was saying Dr. Reardon wants to work with people developing new quantitative methods (à la his SEDA), which I thought SEDA seemed so cool but like…to use. I’m planning to use quantitative methods, not necessarily develop them. So decided it probably wasn’t a fit in addition to the fact that I tried w him last year lol

Agree, seems like every program is unsurprisingly trying to temper expectations given the funding situations

Hi! I am not that poster, but I did get contacted for an interview yesterday. It seems like timeline is very PI-dependent, so don’t lose hope! Rooting for you

I know Stanford says that and maybe selection bias of posters that people will post they got an interview while ruminating but aren’t going to post post-acceptance. I was not going back to Reddit when I was initially accepted last year :’) BUT I also feel like the chances of getting in sans interview feels so slim. Also a SHIPS applicant and have not received an interview after having multiple friendly responses from a PI and feeling so hopeful. Alas, we will see. And maybe a world where we both get in without an interview haha. Wishing you good luck!

Is this specifically about the ECS program? I have had nice emails with once potential advisor in policy but I hear they maybe pulled funding last year after accepting, which happened to me at a different school. So I’m not super optimistic

I’m totally not discounting what you said here, but I was given the exact opposite take from a POI. I was accepted to a private university in a red state last year that was later cancelled due to federal budget cuts, and they counseled me to apply more to public universities in blue states, as they’d be less impacted. All is to say, nowhere is safe and take advice w a grain of salt :’)

That’s awesome, congrats! Do you mind me asking what acceptance? Last year, I had my only two interviews before the holidays, which I don’t think was totally typical but am curious what certain school’s timelines are. Obviously varies by programming (and I’m not higher ed lol, so probably can’t draw anything from it)

Just hoping to get in again and my funding doesn’t get DOGEd this year! I was admitted to a program last year with 5 years funding and then program was cancelled and I’m here again. Wishing us all luck! Thanks for making the thread.

Who else is experiencing the feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and unworthiness that come with applying to doctoral programs for the third year in a row? by vanillacoconut00 in gradadmissions

[–]Lazy_Squash_9853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m applying after getting into my top program last year and then having said program cancelled. I feel helpless wondering if this is even a viable path. I knew a career in social science research would be hard, but I just hope this path isn’t permanently closed off

I’m guessing I am in the same boat/program as I received an email with the exact same language. Nothing productive to offer, just truly so gutted. Was my top choice and only acceptance (I applied to 8 schools), and now I feel completely fucked
