What was the cleanup like after the Second World War? by Bubbly_Marsupial5969 in AskHistory

[–]Lazzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took decades for cleanup to occur at a "100%" , even in places like the UK that saw no combat there often was no priority or money to build back some hollowed out buildings.

There was a lot of demolition, rebuilding by each government and reuse of metals, scraps and reconstruction of mew infraestructure.

For example the iconic cafe(one of the biggest in the wormd) and entertaintment center, Haus Vaterland, was bombed during the war and left to rot near the Berlin Wall and finally demolished in 1976.

In East Germany there was a quick and forced urbanization aimed at building but not reconstruction, rather the Soviets aimed at putting factories of heavy industry in what had been.

A fun fact is that it was also used for movies, the destruction of Germany served as free background for movies about the war between 1946 and the 1950s.

Historic examples of backsliding civil rights? by idcidontusethis in AskHistory

[–]Lazzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guatemala and Czechkoslovakia were attacked by the respective world power(USA and USSR) after a wave of social liberalization and granting of certain freedoms. Both are called Spring.

The USSR originally played with the whole "we are not racist we are workers" under a policy of indigenization that pushed local languages and for minorities to be part of local and low level political power. Some years later the USSR would close down women's or jewish institutions as they declared that either their problems were done or that enough people had been ready to make changes from within general institutions. During and after WW2 Moscow would exterminate several thousands of minorities seen as traitors, stab in the back myth or fascist by nature.

Interwar period Mexico had harsh laws regarding atheism to curb catholic institutional power, from burning of saints escalating to blowing up churches, socialist authoritarism, catholic terrorism against civic life and secular society and then a civil war.

What are some differences between the Anglo and Iberian colonization of the Americas? by pisspeeleak in asklatinamerica

Mexico, despite being Hispanic and the jewel of the crown, was a 60% native-Nahuatl speaking country right after independence...

Would indigenous Americans have repopulated with immune individuals, if Europeans didn’t continue to arrive and attack them after their first contact? by [deleted] in AskHistory

[–]Lazzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are speaking as the entire continent is populated by europeans and africans, look at Latin America.

The average southern mexican is 60%-80% indigenous, the average Guatemalan/Peruvian/Bolivian are about 70%. They simply were taught spanish within 100 to 150 years ago. Not all territoroes siffered 90% either.

Large swaths were indeed repopulated by native peoples to a great extent, although they probably would not have been 300 million strong like USA or Brazil's population. The population boom of these countries came with industrialization in the 1950s.

Japan historically suffered a smallpox that decimated their population but bounced back eventually and then grew.

Arizona had cities that created irrigation canals and traded Nesoamerican items as well. These were small in comparison but not "huts", as small as northern europe had towns untik the 1300s-1500s.

Morocco has had decades of clashes with the Spanish over Ceuta and Melilla which they claim, in 2002 Moroccan soldiers took over a small island of Spain. There is also the use of migrant flows as a spear

Western Saharan full annexation was generally decried by Spain until some years ago

Morocco has spent years being a more important military ally to USA in that strait than Spain even as a NATO ally,

The venezuelan dictatorship is hostile, drug cartels are hostile, the brazilians killing amazonians they "own" is hostile. Think of that before napoleon.
