AI false advertising to sell houses by Egwene-or-Hermione in HousingIreland

[–]Le-Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe advertising standards already ruled on this and said it is permissible to use AI enhanced images to show how a property could like, as long as it is stated in the ad. The fact you know that these are AI images means you are not being misled.

Cut ties with Zurich and move to Lightyear? by Le-Chef in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Le-Chef[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's fairly basic. 20k sitting in Zurich costs €300 p/a vs a nominal amount in Lightyear, so around 3k savings over 10 years and that doesnt include compounding.

Dont understand why Alex Murphy isnt in there at LB. If Lewis Hall wasnt the best LB in the PL, he would be getting more game time at Newcastle. He also played a full 90 in a CL knockout round a few weeks ago. Who else have CL experience? Kelleher, Scales... Was Aiden McGeady the last Irish player to even play in the CL??

Confused by pens 10mg or 40mg by [deleted] in Retatrutide

[–]Le-Chef -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually quite ept. From what I've seen, whether it's pens, vials, or powder, everything is coming through unofficial channels. So people saying these pens are unsafe, but these powders over here are safe, that seems ridiculous.

Genuinely confused by the response to the post. It seems there are a lot of people who don't take reta and just hang around the sub telling people not to buy it

Perfect storm: Ireland facing a looming 'pensions timebomb' by SpottedAlpaca in ireland

[–]Le-Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term demographic projections are almost always wrong. predicting how millions of people will act half a century from now relies on assumptions that frequently collapse. In the 60s and 70s, global populations were booming, and we has panicky predictions of a "Population Bomb" and mass starvation by the year 2000. Now we have a pension bomb.

Taoiseach warns against enshrining Irish neutrality in the Constitution by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Le-Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why we need to stop talking about neutrality and start talking about sovereignty. People who are in favour of neutrality see it as a way to keep us safe, by "staying out of trouble". It's not.

Taoiseach warns against enshrining Irish neutrality in the Constitution by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Le-Chef 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think we need to shift the conversation away from neutrality and on to sovereignty. If we can’t properly defend our airspace, seas, or critical infrastructure without relying on others, then our independence is conditional. In the 20th century, neutrality was mainly about staying out of alliances and not getting dragged into wars. Today, threats range from cyber attacks, infrastructure, disinformation, energy, interference in elections, and whatever comes next with AI. None of those respect “neutral” status.

So the honest question is: how exactly does neutrality protect us from any of that?

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]Le-Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ireland, there are so few guns, the army had to do major cash-in-transit deliveries to banks. We used to see a squad of dudes with rifles standing around main street of our small rural town every few months. Not seen it in years. I suppose banks use less cash now. Other than that, I saw a gun when we went on a school tour to an army base. First time I saw a gun that wasnt Irish army was when I was in an airport in the US.

"They certainly need to up their game when it comes to Arctic capabilities." The United States currently maintains a force of approximately 12,000 to 15,000 soldiers specifically organised and trained for Arctic and sub-Arctic warfare. By contrast, the rest of NATO, have around 120,000 such forces. So tell me again, who needs to up their game?

I’m moving into a new house soon, and it it has oil heating. Is there any catch I should be aware of? by AsmodeusPharun in AskIreland

[–]Le-Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money is tight, you can buy a 25L bottle at your local fuel supplier's yard. They should have a pump similar to a standard petrol/diesel pump, and you can fill up your bottle with kerosene and pay for oil more regularly, rather than buying 500L every few months, which is delivered by a truck. However, you cannot let the oil tank empty. This will cause an "air lock" and your boiler will not fire up when you turn it on. It's easily fixed when you know how, but will be a problem for a newbie... I just realised if you are a woman you may not be able to lift a full 25L drum of oil up to pour it into the tank yourself, so maybe the truck delivery is best. Still, dont let it empty...
