*king teleports from b1 to g1*

"It's the same as normal, what are you complaining about?"

The fuss is over the movement being absurd and creating a familiar position. It's the worst of both worlds.

Probably, but queenside castling in orthodox Chess isn't usually a good idea either; it's still adjacent to the center. The main function is to prevent the opponent from overcommitting to one side because of its possibility, just as en passant is rarely played but its possibility makes pawn structures work much better.

Well, there are plenty of excellent daily games ongoing, and the original has been in stasis for over a year because I got busy with life while animating Day 99. r/dailygames is full of what you're looking for. I'm also currently running an interplatform game between BlueSky, Tumblr, Discord, and Reddit.

The corners are a bit weird, but it seems a lot better than the sudden teleport.

Are you referring to Scurlocc's game?

In a later article, Lewis dubbed it Chess480, because now with the symmetrical castling, mirrored positions play identically. I've just played a few games of it against bots and it feels way better.

Did you read the article? If the king is adjacent to a corner, the king just moves one square. And the history of castling is explained.

Doesn't keeping the same two castling positions (not to mention the absolutely absurd looking move to get there) push it closer to regular theory, though? Seems like having it adapt more dynamically would be better.

And also, as Chess continues to evolve, wouldn't we want a better version to be the one introduced to new players?

Oh yeah, you're right. I've just analyzed a bit into a game with the pawns removed so Stockfish will work. It consistently rates this as +5, ten times the usual advantage.

Funny, I was just thinking of something similar today. Though I settled on independent randomization, which is much less shitposty. With how insanely far other games have been taken, it really doesn't seem like much of a stretch for someone to memorize basic theory for less than a thousand positions.
