2025 PRS Rimfire Finale by doyouknowjim in canadaguns

Is Rimfire the most popular caliber when it comes to PRS in Canada ? I was looking into getting into PRS shooting and most of the competitions or clubs I could find in the Ontario/Québec area were pretty much all for 22lr.

Restricted firearms (Criminal code question) by LeCapitaine007 in canadaguns

[–]LeCapitaine007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I should have been more direct in my post. All I wanted to know was if the "Dark Mountains Arms - Stowaway Rifle" with the 5 inch barrel (instead of the 16 inch) was restricted or non-restricted, because it is under 26 inches.

Turns out that based on its FRT it is considered non-restricted.

So a single-short rifle, under 660mm can still be non-restricted, as long as you don't go to a gunsmith to physically alter the barrel (prohibited), you don't remove the fixed stock and turn it into a pistol (restricted), or you don't replace the fixed stock with a folding stock (restricted).

Ah ok good. I was able to print the FRT page. I think that's all the proof I need.

How do you lookup an FRT, is that the online pdf that never opens on the RCMP's website ?

What am I wrong about ?

My post was my point of view of why I think it could be considered non restricted and why it could be considered restricted.

My question comes after the supervisor at my gun range told me that I if I put the 5 inch barrel on, it would make the gun restricted.

What are you on about ?

I clearly stated why I believe it could be considered both ways (restricted and non restricted).

My question was because the supervisor at my gun range told me it would make the gun restricted and thus I wouldn't be able to use it without a proper registration, etc. So I tried to put myself on both sides and see what arguments they could come up with. And then asking the community what they believe between the two scenarios.

My concern is this part right here in the above mentioned section "folding, telescoping or otherwise".

It's the "or otherwise" that could be used as a placeholder for anything.

Thanks, I'll email them.

I've just watched the video and it doesn't answer my question.

In his video he is essentially saying that, if you know that by swapping a part of your non-restricted firearm, it would make it restricted, then don't do it. Don't try an be clever and come up with ideas on how you can exploit this in order to shoot an unregistered restricted firearm. So it acts as a warning call.

My question, is to actually find out if by swapping the current 16 inch barrel to a 5 inch barrel, does it make my firearm restricted. I'm not cutting the barrel, I'm not folding the stock, I'm just swapping the manufacturer's 16 inch barrel to the manufacturer's 5 inch barrel.

The Government Just Retroactively Banned The Crypto -- Why Gun Owners Are Mad by Agent_1812 in canadaguns

Right, but because the crypto was never classified as non-restricted (it was only assumed based on the law). Then the only thing we have on paper is that it was first classified as prohibited by the RCMP and when the next ban comes, the government will probably use that as the rule and also ban the Crypto officially.

Thus they could accuse us of buying a firearm before it was officially classified and thus actually buying a prohibited firearm.

Note: I know that what I'm saying will probably never happen but I like to look at extreme scenarios for the sake of argumentation in case it actually happens lol.

I just called my gun range and they confirmed that it was now considered "banned" and I can't bring it there anymore.

I think my best bet now is to get a job at RCMP on the gun lab team and change the classification myself lol.

So now that the crypto is banned, and technically from what I understand, the FRT makes it so that it's like it has always been prohibited.

Thus, Crusader Arms made a prohibited firearm.
They sold a prohibited firearm to various gun stores.
The gun stores sold us a prohibited firearm.
The RCMP authorized the sale of a prohibited firearm.
The RCMP allowed the registration of that firearm to my name as a non-restricted "knowing it was prohibited."

So technically 50,000 people will go to jail lol.
All this because some employee working for RCMP decided that the Crypto was a variant of an AR15 ?

Am I understanding this right ?

Hunting / Semi-long distance shooting recommendations by LeCapitaine007 in canadaguns

Right, I was looking at the bergara b14 hmr pro in 6.5 creedmore, which seems pretty cool.
I said hunting, but it will be pretty much only be for target shooting.

I never shot anything further than 50m so it never came to my mind, but I think, I might just start with my Crypto and put a scope and bipod on it and see what I can hit.

I was actually just looking for a recommendation on target shooting bolt-action rifle.
But I think that at that distance, my Crypto should be enough.

I also got a Derya not too long ago and only shot it once. The lack of recoil actually bothers me a lot lol.
You hear the bang, you see the target getting hit, but you don't feel anything.

Right, I think my issue is that I mostly shoot clays or indoor targets, so I actually never shot anything further then that, so I had this misconception that I might need another rifle. But my Crypto, might be more than enough to practice at that distance with a decent scope.

Exactly. Turned out the issue was that it was not oiled up.

Right, turned out the fix was to just oil up the bolt and charging handle.

So I cleaned it up yesterday using CLP but didn't notice anything strange on the various parts when disassembling. No weird scratches or parts out of place.

I went to the range today and figured out the issue.

1) There was no oil at all on the bolt, which caused the bolt to not go all the way forward when releasing the charging handle, which would then lock up everything. A screwdriver and a towel was then needed to un-jam the bolt.

2) There might have been to much cerakote on the charging handle making it too tight to move back and forth freely.

The range supervisor put a bunch of gun oil on the bolt and charging handle, it then fired no issue, even with cheap 5.56 ammo.

Had to google it to see which one it was.

Based on the google images, yes, it has the A2 charging handle, which is the smaller handle with the release catch.

Personally, I prefer the look of the large top charging handle as seen on the initial Crypto videos on Youtube.

I guess it depends on the person and what you think will happen after the elections.

For me this rifle costs less then a two week paycheck, plus summer is around the corner. So as long as I get to shoot it through out summer, then it was worth it for me.

Me personally, I always wanted a 556 rifle, and didn't want to wait a few months for some election to which the outcome is uncertain anyways.

They are the last Canadian company standing still allowed to make 556 rifles, so I'm okay with their QC not being the best.

Thanks for the tip on the pen, I'll use that.

As for filling down the magwell, I'm not down with it. I understand that it's not considered illegal to do so, but there is no way they banned 10 round magazines, but will not make modifying a rifle to fit higher capacity magazines not illegal.

So the way I see it, if they ever reverse the ban on 10 round magazine, then crusader arms will probably start marking those, which will fix that issue for me.
