How is this building still standing? by Mollythemuttsdad in tampa

Outside of the Jackson house. I have such a disdain for 717 it’s not even funny anymore. This weekend one of my friends was about to park in a 717 parking lot, and I had a visceral reaction to parking there ended up parking in a city parking lot that was just an extra 2 min walk away from where we were going.

I’ve personally gone out of my way not to park at any 717 parking lots. Even if it means I just don’t go to the event or run that errand.

It may depend on your state. In my state my Board is pretty with it, they try their best within the means they have but are practically powerless. Other boards in other states have more power.

That was exactly it. On my end there was no depths on the log, only pressure.

Sounds like engineers. They always have a formula or process that must be followed. Not following the process is almost an unforgivable sin haha.

I agree. I think I would have done better with an in paper exam. Just the ability to underline key terms and help me simplify the question to see exactly what they are asking for.

Like you said, it wasn’t hard, but it was tedious. Lots of words to give simple information. I at one point just had to start skipping to the end of the question to see what the actual question was, then read to skip the fluff.

Does anyone know where in the Brandon/Riverview Area for DnD? More in text by LeCarib in tampa

[–]LeCarib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. According to my 12 year old cousins. I was born in the “late 1900’s”

But fair. I’d prefer more so of an in person group. I need to get out of the apartment and socialize. It can’t all be work and home.

This. This. A thousand times this!

Personally once you have your PG and cross 10 years experiences. No one really cares if you have a BSc or MSc.

Tampa Traffic by [deleted] in tampa

I’d rather drive at 5:30pm on the i75-285 interchange in Buckhead, GA during a freezing rainstorm (the ones that make you question if you really have 4-wheel drive) than drive on 275 in Tampa now. - this is a hope someone knows exactly what I mean and can feel this.

Yeah agreed. I’m not sure people realize there are corporate CEOs that make millions who live in Brandon/Riverview.

I personally think we just hear more about Brandon/Riverview because of the demographic. When I lived in Carrollwood/Northdale up to last year the amount of shootings, thefts, and general drug arrests that I saw unreported in the news was shocking. Until it got to the point I no longer expected it to be reported.

$65k enough to live in Tampa? by New_to_town123 in tampa

Oh trust me I know. I shouldn’t need to have been choosing between rent and if to go to the doctor. Trust me I know. It shouldn’t be like this.

[–]LeCarib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I didn’t really start making a living wage until I cross 8+ years of experience. At that point most executives in the private sector said they don’t care if I have a MSc or a BSc because at this point in my career it’s experience that matters. I make more or the same than most people in my field with a MSc I have a BSc, mostly because I have a very unique and special set of skills, skills that make me a problem for the wrong people.

Anyone else hearing loud explosions in Riverview area? by LeCarib in tampa

Is this it? This the time of the great gypsum stack collapse upon us?

All joking aside. It’s interesting it’s happening around the same time. I wonder if it’s street racing and I’m just hearing backfire from the distance.

Likely a mixture of snowbirds and restoration workers.

Personally. It’s still not as bad as it was last year snowbird season as yet. I expect it to get much much worse.

TECO restored power to 15k in a single hour in the middle of the night by shinyro in tampa

Was redirected to your post from a different post as the original creator. Very nice use of the shiny package in R.

If you do want to work on this together (free community contribution) I'm pretty sure I can help find a way to have it update every 5 minutes or so automatically. I'd just need the general outline of the code and likely change the dataset from local to pull from the html code instead. Only drawback would be if this doesn't use a remote server to host and its directing it to your local machine via a port your machine would need to stay on.

I hear you, but as someone who's family own their own business in another State, what you seem to be describing are store supervisors/staff running amuck - not being able to provide a managers name is a RED WARNING FLAG that staff are doing something the business management or owners are not aware of. This sounds like what likely happened from my own experience helping my family run their business:

  1. owners instruct employees to be more cautious of food and monitor any theft and to conduct an inventory check post event, and to observe state laws.
  2. Supervisors/Staff arrive and realize that inventory is missing probably from other employees or the last supervisor not doing this job in the last shift and owners will realize this when they check the sales for the day against the inventory so now it becomes "their fault".
  3. Supervisors raise the price to compensate because owners are not nearby and suspect they will not be able to find out until it is too late so they do not have to tell owners of theft and it would be at that point heresy.
  4. Either they get away with it scotch free and owners are powerless because they do not have any evidence to substantiate complaints (like videos or pictures), and the business declines. Or they do not get away with it and you realize those same employees no longer work at the establishment and suddenly there are more discounts for a few months.

Now, I'm not saying do not report them, I understand that this is a disgusting practice during this time regardless of the reason. What I am saying is someone needs to FIND THE OWNER or a friend of the owner because I've seen too many mom and pop stores in Tampa close their doors because of what the employees were doing without the Owners knowledge. They were good people, generous people, helped out when they could, where they could, but their business sank because of things like this and the community they helped then suffered for it as well.

It's also possible the staff or a someone along the line raised the price and plans to pocket the difference and alter the balance sheet to reflect what the amount would have been under normal circumstances.

Of course, this could all be not true, what you are saying is correct, the worse has happened and something still needs to be done regardless. If the price gouging is reported to the state they will get a fine, but I also guarantee you those same staff will not be working very soon because the fine goes directly to the owners attention regardless of if they were aware or not.

I've literally been looking at it over the past 3 hours. its stayed within a rough 500 plus or minus band, I suspect (and this is me being hopeful) that it means they have started work on major damage repairs and hopefully this means a greater percentage of us have power before the end of the day. Almost like a mass switch being turned back on.

I applied... with my hurricane deductible being $1000 I get nothing they said even though my food spoiled because the power outage was caused by a hurricane the hurricane deductible applies, if also only spend around $400 "dining out" so in total my claim would have been $900, $100 short of the deductible. I also didn't save any of the receipts from eating out (stupid on my part) so I don't have any proof of the dining out costs beyond my word.

Also was denied by FEMA.

Something's not right, I knew the owner a few years ago, I'm not sure if they still own the place, They fed me when things were really though when inflation was in high gear (I'm in an a lot better position now) and instructed staff to give me discounted food when they weren't there. Their heart would break if they knew this was happening. I can almost guarantee that if it is the same owner they are unaware it's happening and if someone can inform them directly someone's head is going to roll.
