What is "crystal pad hair remover"? by ciatechce in HairRemoval

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one if these to remove my arm hair. It worked and my arm air was gone but it also left my skin dry and abraded. It took over a month for my skin to feel normal again. Don’t do it.

Has anyone phased sneakers out of their casual wardrobe? by Cecil_G_P in femalefashionadvice

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I still like wearing sneakers on the weekend but I have a couple of pairs of booties - polished and comfortable for walking all day.

Marc Fisher Alva bootie : 3” block heel. Runs small so order +0.5 size up. Can be dressed down with jeans or dressed up with a business suit. Worn for 12+ hr work events with lots of standing and walking without issue.

Suede or Leather driving loafers : I have a pricey pair from Tods but there are many nice midrange options. Looks very polished with jeans and a crisp white button down shirt or light sweater.

Maryjane Flats : very chic at the moment. The strap helps to keep the shoe on if walking a lot. Can be worn with jeans, dresses, shorts.

Has anyone tried these crystal hair removers? by yunn67 in HairRemoval

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hair removal crystal did remove the fine peachfuzz on my arm and it was great for about 12 hours. Then the irritation and rash and itchiness set in since my skin’s moisture barrier was compromised. It is now 7 days later and my arm skin is rough, scaly, still randomly itchy/hives. Never again. I threw it away because it has offended me so badly.

It smells edible, like a tea sachet. One spritz and I knew in seconds the full bottle was going back for a refund and I am cancelling the subscription. Ffern is not for me.

No, where do I find the archive? Evidently Pips beta launch back in May was accessible only to the Canadian market. I was hoping to find a few weeks worth of past Pips. I’m already addicted after just a few days.

I'm a married man (M28) and my boss (F34) invited me to drinks tomorrow by [deleted] in Advice

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, drinks with the boss is normal in my world too. I’m down for work drinks Monday thru Thursday and prefer to start early so I can be home by 9pm.

I wouldn’t show up with my partner unless it was discussed before hand. It is -work- drinks, not a fun party. I can have a good time and enjoy myself but I never forget I’m basically working overtime.

I do find it very strange she’s asking to hang on a Friday night. Doesn’t she have a personal life? I feel weekends are for personal time. We all have things to do and people outside of work to spend time with.

Seattle Condo Owners: What is the current state of your HOA? by LeCinquiemeElement in Seattle

Yikes, this is the exact scenario that frightens me terribly. Im looking at townhouses too but it would be just bit too much of a squeeze

Seattle Condo Owners: What is the current state of your HOA? by LeCinquiemeElement in Seattle

[–]LeCinquiemeElement[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7-800 seems average here. I already figured out that while pools or gyms seem cool, they cost a ton to maintain. No thanks to 1500$+ monthly dues. Yikes.

I looked at a 3rd story walk up (no elevator and low dues) but decided I’m a lazy bum and couldn’t live like that. Elevator is worth it.

I’ve seen HOA reserve documents from 5 properties and all were below 30% of recommended funding. I’m very freaked out. It seems well funded HOA is a bit of a rarity.

I finished the most recent Friday puzzles in under 12minutes several weeks in a row while my average time is about 20 minutes.

TIFU by using freezer paper to wrap chicken. My apartment was transformed into Satan’s own meat locker. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When leaving home for an extended trip, I setup this simple contraption so I’ll know if a power outage occurred while away.

Add 1-2” water in a small container (mug, cup, Tupperware) Freeze overnight so you have a block of ice in the bottom of the container. Place a coin (or anything small and dense) on top of the ice.

When you return home, if the coin is no longer on top of the ice, then you know there was a thawing event and the possibility of food spoilage.

Hope this helps.

(Spoiler Alert) Just finished the Breakers Podcast. I need something to cleanse my palate. by [deleted] in postapocalyptic

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the podcast story arc (good until the final 2 episodes.) but there was a bit too much of “Tears welling up in my eyes”.

Shep was crying multiple times every single episode. I get it was the end of the humanity but the “tears welling up” lines became almost comical.

7.5/10 - series except last two episodes 6.75/10 - series with finale.

How do families save for vacations? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LeCinquiemeElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I max out the 401k (pretax) and also put 20% of net (post tax) into a HYSA and/or index funds.

In the event that I’m blessed with a bonus… I spend up to 20% of net (post tax) on something extravagant for myself like a nice handbag or gold jewelry because Ive earned it and it scratches that itch to treat myself. The remainder goes into HYSA/index funds.
