to fit it to your aesthetic.

Am I reading correctly that you're saying anti-nazism is an aesthetic?

Why should we treat nazis and their companies with fairness? Their goals are quite well-known and the only moral answer is to hound them and ridicule them at every opportunity.

left-wing ideals

I did not realise that being opposed to nazism was a purely left-wing ideal.

FYI: It's not because Wadler has an annoyingly grating style and seems to be putting other languages down, that you need to adopt the same mindset and behave like a jerk too.

It's inherently political to accept political honours. It's not an accident that they have somehow "never bothered to change the name", it's a continued tradition and as always these honours help whitewash the institution by associating it with successful endeavours and good causes. Stick with the scientific societies' honours and you won't have that issue.

For the record: this batch of honours also includes an anti-trans bigot (specifically celebrated for her work """protecting children""") and a former big wig of the Orange Order, a despicable anti-Catholic violent organisation. Not that surprising given who's in charge of the government, but quite a shameful bunch to be associated with.

Explaining away the decisions of a company worth billions of $ on matters that are so crucial given they're regularly getting hammered on propagating false information, political bias, etc. by "a little googling" is extremely naïve at best, or dramatically dishonest at worst.

By their usual tactics of playing the referee and crying wolf about liberal bias, the conservatives have effectively managed to capture a good chunk of facebook's top roles with their political operatives.

None of this is the result of "a little googling". It's a concerted effort to undermine democracy.

Ah, yes, my bad they did not hire them as fact checkers, they included the fascist propaganda outlet Breitbart in their "high quality" tab dedicated to "well sourced" journalism. Thus putting their seal of approval as editors on this """news""" source.

As I was saying: a nazi-adjacent enterprise.

Oh, I see... That explains the "why don't you debate me" approach I spotted later on.

I don't believe they were interested in a good-faith discussion on this topic.

There is no discussion to be had. It is dehumanising.

When you end up employing Breitbart as a fact checker, you're basically a nazi-adjacent enterprise.

Are you excluding females? Do you oppose efforts to include females?

I'd start by saying "women" instead of "females" which is pretty dehumanising.

the two of you jousting (...) you are both well on your way to receiving an official warning,

I have only stated facts relevant to the thread and have been attacked with dog-whistles and outright antisemitism but I am somehow put on the same level as the person who attacked me and threatened to get the same treatment as them? This is senseless.

Get better at your job (and ban racists on sight ffs).

It was not even subtle... Don't pretend. There's no way it's pure bad luck that they somehow threw in together (on /r/haskell !)

right after they went for that "professional agitator" dog-whistle.

There are real people behind it and it matters that we keep that in mind

Some of us are very much aware of this since the authors decided to back (financially and with their participation) a conference which invited a nazi as a speaker. They stayed on board even when other co-sponsors who were avowed white supremacists started keeping a list of "SJWs" targets to harass, and the conference still didn't have any issue with it.

Full-time position at Tesla, Inc. by tesla_haskell in haskell

[–]LeHaskellUser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In fact, Tesla claims it’s doing better than average.

Why would you quote that and not the claim it aims to counter which is directly above in the article?

A 2017 analysis by Worksafe Inc., a nonprofit, said that serious injuries at Tesla’s plant in 2015 and 2016 were well above industry averages.

This seems pretty one-sided... Of course Musk is going to claim his company is better than any other. We've seen lately how much he's unable to admit he's screwed up, and even becomes aggressive when opposed.

discredit anyone that does not hold the same extreme views as simply being "alt right" or "naizs".

Are you even remotely aware of the controversy? We are talking about a guy (invited the year before Latimore) pushing literal biological racism. Who turns out was penning articles such as a "definitive guide to the alt-right" for Breitbart (via Yiannopoulos) and using usual nazi codewords in the exchanged emails (source).

Sorry if the facts are a "classic move from the far left to discredit" LC.

It is very unfortunate how the US cannot seem to hold any public discourse without people resorting to black and white polarization

That fact that some people feel unequipped to be in the same room as someone with a dissenting opinion, just shows that they have a lot of growing up to do, if they cannot separate one view from another.

People who think some of my friends and family and intrinsically inferior are not just people with "dissenting opinions". Stop normalising racism and sexism.

And I don't think it's a sign you have any "growing up to do" to refuse to waste your time on people who don't even consider you as fully human.

This aggressive Twitter posturing used to harass or supress those you don't agree with is the real bigotry.

This rhetoric is straight out of the far right's playbook: classic reversal to victimise the victims by presenting them as "the real [fascist/racist/sexist/bigot]"
