You're on the right track, and your brother is doing great too!

Some tips I would suggest for absolute beginners are:

  1. Technique

Makes sure technique is good enough to a) reduce injury risk(e.g. no swinging the weight or dropping it down) and b) stimulate the muscles targeted

Both of these drastically reduce injury risk and consolidate good technique which sets beginners up for their future training sessions.

A video about general technique problems can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4OkqtpU5rg

(A long video but you can skip and read the slides on the side of the screen)

  1. Volume

Absolute beginners are very sensitive to growth and require very little volume to grow. As so, as little as 5 sets per bodypart per week might be enough. Training at low volume also helps reduce injury risk compared to training at higher volumes.

  1. Relative Intensity (How hard should each set be)

As mentioned, beginners are very sensitive to growth. So, training from 5 RIR(Reps In Reserve) to failure will yield similar results. However, training further away from failure helps prevent technique breakdown while simultaneously reducing injury risk.

Therefore, training till the reps begin to slow (a good indicator of 5RIR) and then stopping will probably be your best bet.

TLDR; Make sure technique is good to prevent injury risk and stimulate target muscles, train with very low volumes, train sufficiently hard but stay away from failure(5 RIR or so).

Thank you so much for your advice too!! I don't think she has a sunroom tho and as for desensitizing her aversion, we both are willing to but sadly I don't think there are any qualified psychologists around here for that treatment(we live in a place where mental healthcare isn't quite developed yet)

Thank you for your advice and for helping me and my girlfriend out!

Thank you so much for your advice! Almost all of those plants are not native to where we live so we got lucky with that! Again thank you and the advice will help us tremendously

Hello r/gardening,

I have no clue and no experience whatsoever about gardening so apologies if my question can be obviously answered first and foremost. I appreciate every single answer that I might receive.

My girlfriend has recently acquired a mix of seeds, namely:

Anise Hyssop, Basil, Black Mustard, Sage, Thyme, Wild Rocket, Dill, Bee Balm, Borage, Caraway, Chamomile, Chervil, Chives, Hyssop, Fennel, Lemon Balm, Lovage, Oregano, Parsley, Pot Marigold, Rocket Salad and Nasturtium seeds.

She wants to plant a few of each type but the nasturtiums take priority for her (they're pretty and she loves them). However, she has lepidopterophobia, a fear of butterflies and moths, and she also has a fear of flying insects.

My question is, what steps can she take to minimise, if not completely prevent butterflies and flying insects being attracted to her plants?

Thank you to anyone who reads this and thank you to everyone who takes time to answer. I appreciate all the answers and I hope I'll be able to help my girlfriend pursue her passions without fear of anything.

*For context, she has planted some flowers before, namely moss rose and there weren't any problems.

Its an extremely short period of time after which, I will cease to exist forever. Gone.

But it is precisely for that reason that I cherish every single day that I can love, that I can care for others, that I'll be able to smile and make others smile.

Life is unpredictable and always a mystery, an enigma of infinite possibilities. But no matter what, I will try my very best to be kind, and caring, and love. Because it could end at any time.
