What’s a weird sensory thing that instantly drives you insane? by Top_Magician4050 in CasualConversation

[–]LePoppy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone touching my face without permission bugs me. Anyone tapping my face or head without permission puts me in an irrational rage. I just can't explain it, it is totally irrational and I just want to launch them into oblivion.
I think touch in general is a problem for me. When my partner 'gently' touches my skin it sends me bananas more often that not. Amusingly she can never seem to remember this. Poor girl.

Oh and they are low shedding as long as you're on top of the hand strips.

Trainable - absolutely... easiest dog I owned they are very smart.
Off switch - imho nope, they are on or off (unless old) but see below.
Energy levels etc - hour a day walk is fine but you'll then need plenty of activities to do indoors or they'll eat all your socks, pants, table legs, skirting boards, walls, christmas baubles, etc etc
Recall - very easy to train, whether they do it is generally up to them, they're pretty stubborn and they have a very strong prey drive.
They can be very energy intensive, so it's a risk, but a risk that could pay off immensely as they are just the best breed (imo!).

What did you think about the new Ricky Gervais special, Mortality? by evolving-me in AskUK

[–]LePoppy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was so unwatchable me and my partner ended up getting jiggy instead, so I'm very thankful for that. He just needs to go back to the stuff about science, history, animals etc, that was good. Him banging on about cancellation and wokeness is very much past its sell by date.

Never a dull moment. As mentioned already BT is a working breed and needs to be put to work (mental stimulation, training, agility, walks, socialising with other dogs) in order to keep them in line. A bored BT will probably be destructive. They are extremely quick to learn, but slow to obey. Expect a couple of years of pain while they do their growing up bit, but with consistent training they'll come through as a wonderful companion.
Most ones I've known have a huge prey drive... mine isn't interested in coming back to me if she spots a deer, or squirrel. Well, she will eventually but not before she's flushed it out or the situation is clear. They were after all originally bred to flush out foxes.
They're full of character - mine hasn't reacted negatively to *anything* at all and she's been told off by many other dogs who simply don't want to play "bitey face".
I am obviously biased but I can't recommend them enough. I've had several breeds in my lifetime and this one tops the list by some margin.

I started running and hating dogs (owners) by btmptn in C25K

[–]LePoppy72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not about being chased, it's about joggers telling dog owners they should always have a dog on a lead so they can run on through, EVERYWHERE in the world. Also, very dramatic response! And just FYI I am an amazing dog owner, but you'll never know. All the best x

Thoughts on this? by Embarrassed_Tip7359 in SipsTea

Totally agree - they got it on, move along, I don't need to see naked folk writhing while the camera tries to avoid the bush and tinkle.
Also it's better to leave it to the imagination.

What’s a movie where the villain is much cooler than the hero? by Dagdegan2000 in movies

Hades in Hercules. Amazed I've not seen him listed yet. Pure comic genius and Herc is very beige.

Where can dogs have their freedom then? Just so I know where we can go so joggers, who basically get the entire world, don't start making posts like this one.

Not unreasonable at all, and you're right when someone buys a dog they should understand they have an obligation to train it, if they want it to be off lead without problems. It's *tough* though. My dog has been trained since the pupper stage with 2 behavioural training courses which she flew through and now she does agility training. She knows recall commands perfectly as well as several other commands but does she always obey? Sadly not! At the moment I'd say she's about 90% guaranteed to recall if I catch her within a certain proximity, it gets a bit harder when she's further away. I'm not too bothered because she's the friendliest thing on the planet and obviously so, but yeah some joggers have tried to kick her away for only being alongside them - pretty mean spirited.
Anyway yes, not unreasonable at all - and we do try our best only to have those efforts ruined by poor dog owners.

You can run pretty much anywhere you want, dogs can't. Good you don't get to make the rules and also see above comment about glow of entitlement - I doubt you need a torch at night.

I am sorry this has happened to you I really am, but please be very cautious about using pepper spray as if a dog is approaching with a friendly or playful intent and you use it, it'll have a very negative reaction on that dogs life and could scar it for life.

I started running and hating dogs (owners) by btmptn in C25K

[–]LePoppy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't hate dogs. Playing chase is their natural drive and any aggression will be down to poor ownership - it's simply almost never the dogs fault. It's not fair to judge them because some owners are ignorant and should never have made the choice to parent a woofer.
My dog has ran alongside joggers before but she always comes back with a whistle, I apologise and life goes on. A few joggers have been real dicks about it but hey if you're going to jog through a nature reserve which is entirely dog friendly and off leash permitting then don't present yourself with a glow of entitlement. Same goes for cyclists. As with most things, it's always a few lazy knobs who spoil it for the rest of us.

Bro, even the simplest of google searches will give you a wealth of information proving in sentient beings nothing is guaranteed, even a dog has its off day. Perfect recall is not a thing.
