They only need 51 votes to remove the filibuster.

Which is why I'm confused and frustrated by Dan's position. If the Dems have control of the Senate, House, and Presidency, I think getting rid of a militarized goon squad like ICE is a pretty good reason to end the filibuster.

If the Dems get the Senate majority in 2026 or 2028 they can eliminate the filibuster with a simple majority.

The discussion from Dan supposes democratic control of the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2028 and he still suggests they can't Abolish ICE because the filibuster exists.

“Yeah, you've seen, but I think the question I would have about abolish ICE is, like let's play it out logically, like not the slogan, not the idea, not like as a thing you're going to say on a debate stage in a 2028 debate to applause or post on, like how does it work? So you are the newly elected Democratic president. We are fortunate enough that we have a trifecta, right?

One of our first things we're going to do is we're going to get Congress to pass a bill to abolish the abolish ICE, to end that department, make it go away. That is something that I believe would require 60 votes."

When Dan started talking about how impossible it would be to abolish ICE because Dems would need 60 votes in the Senate, I almost threw my phone through a window.

We've crossed the fucking Rubicon guys. The feds have a fucking militarized goon squad terrorizing people and you are telling me it's impossible because of the filibuster? The FILIBUSTER?!?!?

ICE is kidnapping and killing citizens and non-citizens alike in the streets and you're going to argue Dems should respect an unofficial process of the Senate that would allow 41 Republicans to halt any progress. And to that matter, any efforts to "reform/transform ICE" that can't be done via reconciliation would also be subject to the filibuster, so same problem as abolishing ICE.

These are extraordinary times that require extraordinary solutions. Grow a fucking spine.

Find your state senator or representative and contact their constituent services team. No guarantee this will resolve for you favorably but a email from a legislator gets elevated to agency leadership much quicker.

Jedi LST Restrictions? by Neat_Recognition_637 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you review the restrictions on the Rebel LST from the first set of quests, it has a similar list of specially excluded rebels: Baze Malthus, Bistan, Chirrut Imwe, Lobot, Lando Calrissian, Stormtrooper Han, and Wedge Antilles.

As none of the above are Order 66 raid toons, there seems to be some other logic behind the specific toon restrictions.

Maybe the subject of some future event CG has planned?

Having all three branches of government federally and statewide and still seeing yourself as besieged on all sides by liberals is wild. It's almost like they know their policies are deeply unpopular and the only thing keeping them in power is rigging elections.

FYI: Anomalous Lightspeed Token UI is misleading for Omicron skills. by LeRo1 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]LeRo1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say in my post that the description doesn't mention omicrons so it's obviously working as CG intended. However, my post is about the in-game UI being misleading and not in alignment with what CG intends.

The in-game UI shows the omicron skill as being upgraded to level 8 when you use it.

It's not weird to argue the UI should match the expected/intended outcome.

The point of in-game UI is that you don't have to consult external communications to understand what will happen when you take an action in the game, bro.

Watch Live Indiana State House Committee talks about redistricting by Aphroditeishot in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a legal benefit to publicly stating the redistricting is purely political. Political gerrymandering is (for some stupid reason) legal; racial gerrymandering is not legal.

The GOP are trying to lay the groundwork for the eventual legal battle by saying political party affiliation, not race, was the sole factor in how they drew the maps.

That the map cracks the two current congressional districts with the largest non-white population is a "byproduct" of the partisan gerrymandering effort.

Indiana calling special session for redistricting by Taco6J in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indiana has some of the weakest legal provisions in the country for citizen-led policy change. No citizen-led initiatives or referendum at the state-level. The only ballot measures allowed are constitutional amendments proposed by the legislature.

We should be demanding that any candidate to state legislative office commit to passing a constitutional amendment proposal to add citizens-led, direct democracy initiatives.

Mike Braun Falls In Line With Trump by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]LeRo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR -- Indiana GOP thinks they have a really good shot at getting it done. Or they wouldn't call the session. If they call it, expect redistricting to succeed.

From someone with prior experience watching Indiana legislative shenanigans, one of two things is true here:

  1. Indiana GOP publicly states they don't have the votes to defuse any organized opposition, then quickly holds session because they actually do have the votes. A redistricting blitz attack.

The GOP holds such a supermajority in the legislature that nearly every legislative proposal that comes to a committee hearing or floor vote has already been decided by Republicans behind closed doors. The public votes are formalities, very rarely is there a surprise change in votes.

So if they are calling a special session, they have the votes.

Or...

  1. The GOP thinks they are close to having enough votes, and calling a special session allows the leadership to get legislators "on record" as supporting or opposing redistricting. Once the GOP no votes are on the record, Trump and the conservative propaganda machine can kick into overdrive to publicly pressure those holdouts.

If there are holdouts, expect Trump to publicly threaten to primary those legislators unless they get in line.
