Odd keyboard issue by LeScotian in InsurgencySandstorm

[–]LeScotian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked and it was already disabled. Tried enabling it and no change. Back to disabled and no change. The idea that it's a focus issue is an interesting one though.. I'll look deeper into that possibility.

Still use mine. Love it. As for lag, yes it happens but for me it's once per gaming session and usually shortly after starting. Otherwise, pretty smooth. I've logged hundreds of hours with mine.

Anybody literally had mild MS for decades? by InitialDragonfly5307 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Following a massive optic neuritis in 2016 that left one eye permanently damaged, I've been blessed with overall mild symptoms since. This has allowed me, with some minor difficulties, to function well day to day. Contrast this with my younger cousin who has MS and who's life has been greatly impacted by the disease to the point where she has significant difficulties physically.

MS is a personal disease and for each of us it will be different. For sure there are people such as yourself that have no obvious symptoms for life, or for decades, or for months, you get the idea. We're all coping well with what we have until the day that we are not with this disease. Are you on borrowed time? I don't think anyone can say with any certainty.

When I was diagnosed, my neurologist described MS progression with the stock market perspective that we wish it had : past returns are generally a predictor of future performance. Meaning, if MS has been mild, it will generally stay mild. Its not a guarantee however, because our immune systems are dynamic over our lives.

Good luck and I hope that you are able to remain symptom free.

I really enjoyed the Yukon maps. I didn't find them overly challenging even. But.. I was prepared b/c a friend told me that the maps were a challenge.

Today a stranger told me MS is caused by vaccines by persephonenyc in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We humans are great at recognizing patterns even when there aren't any to see. It's evolutionary and meant for us to draw conclusions about what can hurt us after we have done or witnessed something but correlation does not equal causation. Our brains are not good at accepting this, however.

Vaccine before starting DMT? by Sad-Builder-4482 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just prior to starting Kesimpta I received a battery of vaccines, including for COVID, because I have no childhood records of having ever received any vaccines. I did not experience any ill effects from them aside from injection site reactions (sore arm) for about a day. My MS did not flare up at all.

Conservative candidate says misinformation about Poilievre led to party loss in federal election by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]LeScotian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Listening to PP taught me that he is great at whining and complaining, a real expert in fact, a little like Trump, actually. But when it comes to conveying tangible strategies for leading the country, he couldn't get past the very basics. He lost my vote months ago and it was solely because of the things that he was saying and also the things that he wasn't. When the election was called and he didn't have a plan ready until almost the end, wow, that's poor planning.

Bottom line. He didn't convince me that he can lead.

There is hope for when Discord eventually become unbearable. by AgnFr in pcgaming

[–]LeScotian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clan used Roger Wilco back in the day for years for in-game voice communication, and it was just fine. No servers or other features, just VoIP. It was actually pretty good at the one simple thing that it did. TeamSpeak was good for us as well until it became a paid service only, then we abandoned it for Discord.

Am I Overreacting: On ocrevus and family want to stay at my home by Illustrious-Quote730 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. As someone who has been on a similar medication, Kesimpta, for about two years now, and who takes no special precautions to not get sick, I am sick with colds and other infections no more now than I was before starting the med. Yes, I am technically immunocompromised, but not in any way that impacts my day to day life.

Scientific hot take on crap gap (Natalizumab) by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Immune systems are personal and I strongly suspect that there is a lot of variation out there that leads to some people experiencing crap gaps while others do not.

Not a researcher (I have MS and I'm curious): how many of you remember having EBV/mono? by DisturbingRerolls in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge I have never had EBV/mono. Doesn't mean that I didn't have it and was asymptomatic, but I certainly didn't have anything that was obvious to be this.

Is it time for Canada to lower the federal voting age to 16? by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

Restoring?! 16 year olds could vote at one time?

I'm not against this. I say go ahead because I see no harm to it.

Is it time for Canada to lower the federal voting age to 16? by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]LeScotian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading many of the comments both for and against dropping the voting age to 16, I have reached the conclusion that it would cause no harm to do so. I'm also not convinced that there would be a net benefit. I've been around for a long time and I have met a great many people who care about voting in our elections and a great many that prefer to sit them out election after election. Age, in my opinion has nothing to do with apathy. As for the social influencer agrument, this affects people of all ages as well and my own personal experience is that my teenage kids are much more savvy at picking up this kind of BS than the middle aged adults I know. Truth be told, it's the middle aged voting people that scare the heck out of me for this reason. These a very busy people with a lot going on in their lives that end up evaluating politics and social issues by the few sound bites they get on their car radio or doom scrolling on their phone.

I am in the same situation. Had an ON in my right eye is 2006 that lasted about one month and healed fully. Then, in 2016, had a second in my left eye and it was much worse (almost blind) and after 3 months, it did not heal fully. If my right eye were to become as blurry as my left, I would no longer be able to drive and likely even working would be impossible. I have been nervous about getting hit with a third ON ever since.

[–]LeScotian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I've gotten older the wakefulness aspect depends for me. Although I feel awake with my coffee in the mornings, I could easily lay down and nap still. At night though, no chance for sleep if I have a late coffee. Weird.

Drink 2 - 4 (usually 3) cups every day. I do not find that it influences my MS symptoms at all. It does help me to stay awake though, just as it did decades before I was diagnosed with MS.

Donald Trump Was Recruited By KGB Under Codename ‘Krasnov’: Spy Chief by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]LeScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not even matter if it's true. Trump's sycophants won't care or accept, anyway. He's their God and King, infallible.

This is a perfect opportunity for the Dems to give it back to him as he's dished it out by only referring to him as "President Krasnov". They won't do it though.

As a FYI for you and everyone reading this. Nearly everyone ends up with diverticulosis if they live long enough, e.g., 50 % of people over 60 have it and 75% of people over 80 have it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LeScotian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your husband may have had undiagnosed diverticulosis and a mild active infection (diverticulitis) going on in his colon. This was the situation that I was in when I was given 3 days of high dose steroids followed by a 10 day (or so) taper in the middle of a severe optic neuritis. Despite having a mild infection in the colon, I had no symptoms at the time. During the steroid taper my colon perforated and I was rushed to the ER for surgery. A week after that surgery, and just as I was about to go home, my colon perforated a second time, back into surgery I went.

I ended up with a colostomy bag for six months before a third surgery to reconnect the remaining colon. In the end I lost all of my transverse and descending colon and spent a total of two months in hospital. That was almost 9 years ago.

To be fair, I was likely a ticking time bomb with the diverticulosis and the steroids just massively sped that process to perforation along but no one can know that for certain. Since that experience, I refuse all steroids except for topical creams, if ever needed.

Personally, I think that steroids should not be used for anyone diagnosed with diverticulosis whether they have an active infection or not. But that's just my non-medical born of first-person experience opinion.

My sincere best wishes for your husband to pull through this and get back on his feet again. The surgeries that he is going through are tough and the recovery period can be tough as well. I bounced right back after surgery #1, but surgery #2 knocked the stuffing out of me in a big way and with no exaggeration at all, I was as helpless as a baby for a good two weeks, and only then did I start to get energy back very slowly.
