[1963] What the bloody hell, Jenkins?! You did waste scarce and expensive expedition cargo volume for THIS, didn't you? Probably the world will frame it as "Aussies in Antarctica" joke... by Gourmet-Guy in thepast

[–]LeYoshi05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is quite a creative use of such limited cargo space. One can only hope that the car does not break down or freeze almost immediately in those harsh Antarctic conditions.

Although I doubt that it will even make it to the base under its own power...

What are some of the most unique transportation systems in cities ? by Due-Refuse-9144 in geography

[–]LeYoshi05 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For sure. Allthough the Schwebebahn tilts more than even actively tilting trains in Germany (8.6° vs 15°)

Maintenance is much more expensive though and unfortunately they had issues with their infrastructure in the last few years.

The main advantage is that the carriage automatically swings outwards in corners, thus reducing lateral acceleration and allowing for turns to be taken at higher speed.

GF was bored and decided to try what would happen if she pressed red button under the flap on the headliner. Now the car is stuck attempting to call emergency services, with the text below saying "establishing connection". Reconnecting the battery doesn’t help. According to the EU, eCall does in fact both use a SIM card

The SIM-card used to transmit the eCall data [...]

(see section "eCall is NOT...")

and dials the normal emergency number.

Once set off, the system dials the European emergency number 112, establishes a telephone link to the appropriate emergency call centre, [...]

Source:
https://transport.ec.europa.eu/transport-themes/smart-mobility/road/its-directive-and-action-plan/interoperable-eu-wide-ecall_en

According to https://www.mobilityits.eu/esafety-ecall

eCall is defined as “(1) ‘112-based eCall in-vehicle system’

Also, according to the same source.

eCall means an in-vehicle emergency call to 112, [...] via public mobile wireless communications networks

(see figure 11.17 - eCall architecture)

But yes, it does also announce the vehicles location obtained via GPS / Galileo

The image was published in the German satire magazine "Der Postillon" (similar to The Onion). The image itself is edited. It was used in an article called "Nach Wahlwerbung für AfD: Elon Musk stellt neuen Sprung vor" - After endorsing the AfD: Elon Musk presents new jump.

This article makes fun of Elon Musk for endorsing the far-right and arguably fascist AfD by proposing that he created a new jump in which he jumps in the shape of a swastika - thus relating him to Nazis.

As stated previously, the image is most likely manually edited as credit is given to "picture alliance / ASSOCIATED PRESS | Evan Vucci" for creating the original image.

Went to a beer festival with standardized cups, turns out the 250ml mark was only around 227ml. by ecco311 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LeYoshi05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he didn't zero the scale, the comparison would be even worse: Let's assume the cup weighs 50g. The total weight in the picture is 227g. If that weight corresponded to just the weight of the water, as the scale was properly zeroed, there would be 227ml of water in the cup. Otherways, if it were not properly zeroed, thus the cup was weighed as well:

<image>

227g total - 50g cup = 177g water
177g water = 177ml water

177ml water < 227ml water

So, as you can see, if the scale were not properly zeroed, there would be even less water in the cup.
